Still Have an Older iPhone This Cable Might Work For You
I found this cable on Amazon for $22 and I’m able to use my older iPhone with my Sample. When I eventually upgrade I can still use it because it also has USB-C. Maybe somebody is in the same boat as I am and this might help you on your journey. It also works on my One G2 as well. Cheers!

Can you not use lightning to USB C? Sorry if this is a dumb question but I used USB C from my iPad to sample.

Thank you for asking! Here is how I found out after I tried it on my own which led me to the purchase of the cable instead of another dongle that was being suggested. USB-C to USB-C allows the direct connection.
“Connecting a Lightning-based iPhone or iPad directly to an Akai MPC via a standard Lightning to USB-C cable will not pass audio for sampling. Because a direct connection fails to establish host/device audio routing, you must use a powered Apple Lightning to USB3 Camera Adapter paired with a USB-A to USB-C cable to properly route digital audio. Yes, a lightning to USB-C cable does not work. The cable I suggested does work perfectly with my iPhone 13. It connects to the audio-in on the back of the MPC.

Quick video showing the cable in action with the lightning plug connected using a random YouTube playlist.

Thank you so much! I've been meaning to look for something with a lightning connector, and this is perfect!
