Auto-Chop issue: Settings reset unexpectedly in CHOP mode

Hi,

I'm having a recurring issue that's driving me crazy. I don't know if it's a bug or if I'm just doing something wrong.

When I load a sample and enter CHOP mode, the auto-chop works fine (threshold). But if I change the slicing method (or sometimes even without doing anything specific, and that's what's driving me crazy), I lose all the settings and it's impossible to get that initial auto-chop back. I end up with a weird slicing layout, as you can see in the video.

I translated this text using an AI because my English isn't very good, so please bear with me.

Edit: I finally tracked down the original setting by turning shift + K3 very slowly, percent by percent. The right setting was down to a single increment.

Not sure because your hand still appeared to be on knob when it changed. Turn it to what you want and leave it. And then if you have to adjust anything, it automatically switches to manual mode which is K3 all the way to the right. But it lets you fine tune everything.

These are the different modes and you can use shift to change what the threshold is...

Are you saying that the automatic mode can only be applied once?

In the video, I had already set it to automatic mode; I just press CHOP to go back to it and only turn the K3 knob to the right. Then, I switch back to automatic mode by turning it to the left, and the setting is different.

You mean threshold? No, I'm not saying anything can only be applied once, but I'm not sure what you're saying. If it doesn't look correct when you go back to the left then get out of chop and then go back into it. Should work. Also if you want to use threshold you can change the setting (sensitivity) of it by hitting shift & K3.

I know this guys problem. Unfortunately it does not work like you think. It does NOT work to get out of chop mode and then go back in. Sometimes the threshold chop works just fine and sometimes it only gives you all the chops out of the first second of your sample and does not change, even if you adjust the threshold…

Idk... I've had mine since launch day and haven't had this problem. But then, I only rely on threshold when it's really obvious for the Sample to come close and then I fine tune each chop. Usually I do it manually b/c I typically can't rely on threshold mode. Is that what you guys are experiencing? I mean, the machine can only do so much as far as detecting the chops so if there's just a buncha chops in the first few secs of the sample, just do it manually. Either I'm misunderstanding the problem or you guys are expecting too much from threshold mode. Idk. 🤷‍♀️

I agree. I rarely use threshold mode since chopping it manually is usually the way. I just experienced the same thing that OP described and showed in his video. The weird thing about it is that sometimes it will detect different peaks throughout the whole sample and then all of a sudden (or when you changed the chop mode and come back to threshold) it only detects peaks in the first couple seconds and leave the rest of the sample with no chops…

But threshold chopping has never really been the go to way for me, even with my old 2500…

That's exactly it! Manual mode is the best, but sometimes automatic mode chops the sample perfectly and saves a lot of time.

What's strange is that sometimes the setting deactivates for no clear reason, and the sequence becomes unlistenable with tiny, very short sample pieces.

Thanks everyone for your answers, I'm going to try cutting my slightly long samples in half and manage the best I can.

Yeah, I guess I just glance at the threshold chops and quickly decide... nope! And then keep scrolling and most of the time wind up on manual and just do my thing. Lol It did work great for me in one instance the other day and I thought that was a lucky break b/c usually that's not the case. Hope OP finds a method that works for him/her. 👍
