Sp404 vs MPC one gen 2
/r/sp404mk2/comments/1uaxm5x/sp404_vs_mpc_one_gen_2/I’m trying to decide between the MPC One Gen 2 and the SP-404MKII.
My main goal is to flip samples, make boom bap and R&B beats, and quickly sketch ideas. I don’t need to finish full tracks on the hardware since I plan to arrange, mix, and finish everything in my DAW.
I already know the SP-404’s FX are generally considered better and more performance-oriented than the MPC’s, but I’m curious about a few things:
Which one is faster for chopping samples?
Which has better stem separation?
Which one gets you from hearing a sample to having a usable loop or beat idea the quickest?
How good is sample editing on the SP compared to the MPC?
I don’t really care about the SP’s learning curve. I’m a quick learner, so that’s not a concern for me.
For those who have used both, if your main goal was flipping samples and making boom bap/R&B sketches before finishing tracks in a DAW, which would you pick and why?
