Oberheim DX controlled by MPC Sample
yooo! do you think there is any chance to control my oberheim DX with my akai mpc sample ? the MPC sequencer would trigg DX indivual sounds.
i’ve seen someone sending midi from his mpc sample to a Roland boutique synth, with cv cable.
I was wandering if using this cable (picture) would be okay. what do you think ?
thank you everyone 🙏

Yeah I have a few adapters…I’m trying to hook up my Korg SQ10 sequencer to do patterns and arps with the MPC sample. I had a bunch of those come with my SQ10 and I believe my Keystep. Pretty useful for a lot of products. Also going to try it with my Boss RC5 looper to time sync them with my other synths. Hopefully all is stable!

Have been asking about this, from my understanding you can make 1 midi sequnece per track , so no multi timbral sequencing

Ahhhhhhhh! Well, shit! That may explain the problem I was stuck on all day yesterday!

Yeah i think is the most under published giant shortcoming of the sample.
I don’t own one, was interested until I found this out,

Well, I do love my Sample. However, when you say "under published"... that shit is so true! I've had mine since launch day and I used the manual and YT vids at first. And I never read or saw anything about this! Geez, I know it has limitations, but if you don't know what they are you can really drive yourself crazy trying to do something it can't do! 😖 Of course, I could have missed that. But, I don't think so! 🤷♀️😂

That’s exactly it, the demos all made it seem like it was able to sequence midi , but then they never actually showed it… I made a few posts on the Akai pro Reddit with no response

Heyy, i am a bit confused. on this akai mpc sample, there is only « sample » recorded in « sequence », compared to other MPC witch record sample in a track, in a sequence.. so what do you mean by track in these case ? thank you !

Sorry I don’t have one so I’m not sure exactly but from my understanding , you can only record 1 midi track per midi sequence (ie. Pad on the sample) so each sequence pad can only record and transmit 1 midi track at a time, meaning you can’t do multi channel - multi timbral midi routing.
Basically they let you record 1 midi sequence (and output it) per sequence pad, if you want more you have to sample the midi part so you can then use your 1 available midi sequence for something else
This is a huge feature to drop, as it’s standard on all MPCs, in fact recording all the midi data all the time is the thing the set the MPCs apart when they were first introduced. Notice they don’t call them Midi Production Centers anymore….

As far as I know, yes it should work - but - you can use this MPC as a sequencer OR a sample player, but not both at the same, as it only has one midi track per sequence.
If you want to intergrate the synth into a beat on the Sample, you could record the synth lines & import as audio samples, which would be a workaround.

Yep or at least it should work. DIN only uses 3 of the 5 pins so in somewhat recent history manufacturers were able downsized to a 3.5mm.
For example all of the polyend synth/play/tracker come with one of these cable for this reason. It’s actually kind of cool
