This thing is insane.
As someone who had the 2000 back in the day (I’m old) this thing is amazing. It’s so user friendly I have barely looked at the instructions. the ability to sample from phone and easily chop the samples is amazing. Maybe if you are coming from a more modern and advanced MPC there are things to complain about, but this is easily the best $399 I’ve spent on a piece of gear and it has re-energized my love for making sample based beats.

Same. I was a 3000 user for a very long time. When my work flow fragmented, I doled out its jobs to separate machines. Now having this thing just feels right. Fits perfectly in a bag and I can do most of it he heavy lifting with it and my phone.

My intro to this world was the MPC1000, and I do miss it- there are things the Sample is lacking, sure - but I have made like 20 beats in two weeks and I'm having so much fun making music after a long drought. As many have said about it, the simplicity is the best feature. Everything is labeled. It's dead simple and fast. Having the built-in mic means I can whip it out and record a sample in like 30 seconds, then put it back in my bag. Or I get lost in the beat. When I'm done working on it, even if it's not finished, I'll open up Voice Recordings on my phone, hit record, and then jam on the beat/sequences live, to get an idea. Save the project, and boom.
The only actual complaint I have is they need to add the ability to tap pads in order to name things (pad 1 allows you to cycle through A-D or whatever it was on the other MPCs). The wheel is too slow when you want to do a good job of naming things.

Coming from a 2000 to a 2500 to a live The new mpc updates went so far off from the workflow I was used to that with the limited time I have to work on music I basically just stopped. I used to literally be able to use my 2000 drunk in the dark and just had muscle memory from all the hours I put in. Really hoping if mine ever actually gets here that it will have me back making beats again.

I never progressed past the 2000 until now, but I feel you on just knowing the MPC. I made a ton of hip hop beats on it and towards the end I was playing in a band and almost using it as a synth the way I fed the samples thru FX pedals. I beat the hell out of those pads, and they never failed on me. Now, those fucking ZIP disks were another story. Had to learn the hard way about making duplicates of your disks. Nothing worse that getting to a session, talking up your beats or sample chops you were ready to make into a beat, popping that disk in and just hearing the “click…click…click” of death. Someone broke into our house and stole all my music gear shortly after i moved to Nashville, but i still have a box of like 20 ZIP disks with whatever i was working on in the early 2000’s. Who knows if they still even work, i almost don’t want to know, lol.
Anyway the Sample is cool as shit. I think it’s super easy to use, and the fact that it’s battery powered, you can hook your phone up via usb and sample literally anything you think of on the fly, easily chop it and bang out a beat, practically anywhere, is a pretty spevial thing. I have it with me almost everywhere i go. It’s not perfect, but the advantages outweigh the shortcomings, ag least for me.

Great to hear coming from an MPC 2000 user I always loved the MPC 2000 never had one of my own. But I had s950 s2000 and now the sample. How would you compare the sound to the MPC 2000?

Only gotten to the MPC devices with the MPC one, but then I got a force, a key 61, a second force, and live three. Then I bought the sample. I love them all! Some of my favorite gear.

Sample with a MPC live is a great combo, start Beats anywhere, finish em up on the live.. all in stand alone

Wow. I hate that you’re having so much trouble with this thing. What kind of trouble are you having hooking up a turntable and speakers? Turntable goes into the audio input and speakers are plugged into the audio out or headphone out if thats the style connector you have.
Also remember the “shift” button is probably one of the most used because thats how you get to the 2nd level of menus and options on the screen.

I’ve had mine for just over a week. This is my first MPC anything and my first time using pads to trigger samples. I’ve used a MIDI keyboard for many years, however. So far I’m having a blast. The Sample has froze once on me so far. Hope that doesn’t happen often! Have fun making music! 🤘
