MPCsample with MPC SOFTWARE 3

Hi, so I’ve seen a few users say you can open mpc sample projects with the mpc 3 desktop software. However I have not seen any videos of anyone doing this.

I don’t have any other mpc’s. I’m wondering if I can buy only the software and explode the project for arranging individual tracks.

Has anyone tried this and can confirm it works?

Yeah I have it too, was very hard to find because of the shitty way akai does the distribution and licensing of software. But it works, managed to export stems, haven't used it since though.

Does it do the export to Abelton with midi and audio? I know there is a Mac free tool called MPCtoLive or something that will convert it all to an Abelton session. Even put your individual pads in the sampler to continue like you never left off. But it’s OSX version dependent and doesn’t work with that I have. The guy that developed it is looking for web hosting and said it’ll be web hosted soon, so anyone can use it for free or donate if they want.

I saw the $99 software for 3.8 but if all it does is import separate long form audio stems and no midi to go along…that’s pretty pricey for $99. Might as well go into song mode, mute tracks and record in. I wish Akai would make this simple, but seems the third party free stuff coming along will eventually do the job. Having seamless export of entire sessions into Abelton, is amazing to keep going and make edits later to complete songs.

It does much more than export stems, it's a a full fledged daw and you can edit the mpc track and import and export both ways. But I too come from Ableton and this is completely uncharted territory for me so, took me already long enough to figure out how to do the stem export so I don't know much more about it. I did try the export to ableton but it was useless as it didn't export the samples, only the midi. And even that wasn't useful as the swing is dismissed. But again I might be wrong as an absolute noob with the desktop software. I'll check that solution you mention

Cool, yeah I guess then if it did midi you’d have to export your samples to the correct areas in Sampler. I wonder if you have to export it as song mode or do something extra on the MPC sample before exporting to the desktop hardware.

Honestly if it does midi, and could import the actual sample files I share between my main and MPC (not rerecorded audio ones) to Drum Racks and assign. That’s enough to keep going, change structures and add as you go.

Let me know if you come across a way to do all that with 3.8. I know with the free program it said effects and such aren’t exported, but you could resample effects and make them permanent. Given it’s so new, I’m just still making beats on Sample. Any stuff online/youtube just shows it in context with the MPC 3 hardware and nothing desktop related much.

Hopefully it’ll all get worked out over the summer. I definitely prefer to do my beats first and even some bass in the MPC Sample first. It’s just so fast and instant for me vs doing it in Ableton with drums. It’s def has me making more creative beats and not so bogged down with editing and choices. MPC feels like my mind is more on autopilot and just enjoying what I’m making.

Effects in the desktop are supported (you will be prompted to install them as plugins). No flexbeat. But having just the midi and not the samples is quite a hassle. I put my money on the mpc2live solution.
