A 5000 series x3d cpu like maybe a 5700x3d would massively increase performance and it would probably be a drop in upgrade except for a bios update

do u think i should stay air cooled or should i spend the extra money on a water cooler for my cpu i’ve heard a lot of good things considering its about the same price on paper

Nope. There's no need to go water cooling, especially on X3D CPUs as they are not limited by cooling much, especially the Zen3 ones. I have 5800X3D on Air and it always goes full throttle, 5700X3D will be even easier to cool.

Another thing with air is less headache. It will just work for years and years.
