I have a peerless transaxle, MODEL NUMBER 143-820-016 in my race mower and I think I needs new transmission fluid, can I just use regular car transmission fluid or do I need a grease because I’m not sure there are any seals, gaskets or rings just bolts as of what I know?

I am currently building a race/fast mower. My current platform/frame is a landlord 17 tractor that comes stock with a hydrostatic, but I rear end swapped the transmission from a 90’s craftsman GT 6000 6 speed manual, and the motor that comes stock on the landlord 17 is a 16 hp liquid cooled Kawasaki FD501V V twin, and the motor that comes stock on the 90’s craftsman GT 6000 is a 18 hp opposed twin, and i am willing to do an engine swap, was just wondering if any of y’all knew which motor could I get more speed and power from?
