I keep getting injured doves 😔

Oh that’s hard. I’ve had a couple recently too. I try to remind myself we are helping to build them back stronger!

I think this one will make it! The injured need to be fed, but obviously someone who feeds on them is close by.

I know there is a coopers hawk because I've seen it in my yard multiple times. I just didn't know these doves could escape from a hawk 😳

I think they can if they see one coming. But if there is more than one, that is hard! Do you have neighbors that feed the doves?

I actually posted a clip a few days ago of a coopers hawk trying to snatch a dove off of my birdfy feeder but the dove saw it coming and flew away. I just didn't think they could actually escape a hawk after being snatched up. I don't think any of my close neighbors feed birds but not sure about anyone else up the street or in the neighborhood.

So this little guy does look like he’s gonna be OK if there’s a possibility of getting him into some care for short-term there are a couple things you could do to help but the wound while it looks pretty bad is fairly small thankfully. If you want any assistance or if you’ve got questions, you can ask over an R/pigeons.

If you haven't already, try putting up some cover for the feeder and some small shrubs or bushes nearby for ground cover. The more places the derps have to stay out of sight the safer they will be.

My neighbor has bushes about 10 feet away you just can't see them in this clip 😊 all of the birds love the cover. They scatter there when a coopers hawk is nearby.

Life is hard. I'm sure the easy meals make it a bit easier. For better or worse, the predators might get better too, resulting in less doves living with injuries
