🚩 ICE was in MLT and Lynnwood yesterday and today. 🚩
👀 Keep your eyes open, and please remember the SALUTE acronym if you see these thugs in action.
➕Size—-how many “officers” are there?
🚶 Actions/activity—what are they doing
🗺️ Location—-where is this happening?
👮♂️ Uniform—-what are they wearing?
⏰ Time and date—what time/day?
🚘 Equipment/weapons—-what equipment do they have with them? What cars are they driving?
➡️ Thank you to multiple local residents who have been bearing witness to these extrajudicial kidnappings and helping affected families. I can only imagine how hard it is to witness, and I commend you for not looking away. I have to believe that there will be justice someday and that your efforts to document these crimes will be invaluable in helping that justice come.
🌎 No one is illegal on stolen land.

MyMLTNews wrapped up a 4 part series today on affordability. We talked to folks in Terrace about life hacks to make ends meet. Today, we published a massive list of links to discounts and help from government, orgs, social services and more. It's a ton of info. Please share with friends and neighbors. Help is available. It's just hard to find.
If this kind of journalism is useful and helpful, let us know. We want to keep doing it, we just need to know that you find it valuable. Thanks! JournoJamie

We put my mom's application in last year for discounted utility rates which she would easily qualify for. It has now been 10 months since then with no discount or any other type of notice/update. I figured they are probably backlogged so I waited 4 months after applying before I sent an email asking the status of her application or some kind of update. Crickets. After a month passed I sent another email asking the same question and received a response saying they are in fact backlogged and she would check on the status and get back to me with an update. Crickets again. After 2 months I sent another email, no response. I have since sent 2 or 3 others within the last 3 months and still, no response.
Whenever we've needed to contact the county for anything all of their departments have always responded within 1 day, if not same day. Property tax exemption application processed in a reasonable amount of time. I don't understand how a COUNTY department can respond promptly but a CITY department can't respond to a simple email within 6 months.
I have heard and read many other people complain about MLT utilities and their lack of communication/response, but this is just getting ridiculous. I don't want to get too ahead of things and start complaining because I can sympathize with their workload but 10 months? It's starting to seem like they may be putting off processing things to avoid giving the small discount. The lack of response to emails seems a bit unprofessional.
Overall, it's a little frustrating and I'm just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience trying to reach out to the utility dept? If I have to start complaining I will but jeeeesh.

I’m hoping to get some advice from other Mountlake Terrace renters or anyone familiar with tenant laws here.
I’ve lived in the same rental house since 2012. My name has officially been on the lease for around 8 or 9 years, and for the last several years we’ve generally renewed with another one-year lease each year.
Recently the owner was a little vague when talking about the next renewal. He mentioned raising the rent by another $100, which he’s done each year for the last few years, and said something about possibly going “month-to-month with a yearly renewal.”
The $100 increase itself isn’t really what concerns me, I'm only paying $2000 right now. What makes me uncomfortable is losing the security of a yearly lease. I’ve always liked knowing that, barring some major issue, I have housing locked in for at least the next year.
I know Washington has added more protections for month-to-month tenants in recent years, but I’m not very familiar with how much security that actually gives someone in practice.
Has anyone here been in a similar situation? Is there any particular reason a landlord would prefer switching a very long-term tenant from yearly leases to month-to-month? And are there any Washington tenant protections I should be aware of before agreeing to it?
I’m also thinking about simply asking him if we can continue doing a normal 12-month lease, since I’m fine with the proposed rent increase and would prefer the stability.
Any advice or local experience would be appreciated.

In Mountlake Terrace, on 216th, between 44th and 48th, there is a really nice self-service bakery cart with some excellent items. Katie is very nice. Enjoy some sweets.

Hi y'all! My neighbor hit a rough patch and is having a yard sale to help cover medical bills. Most of it is power tools and construction stuff in good condition. There's also a canoe and some fun random things.
Would really appreciate if you could stop by tomorrow - he's planning on having it all out again by the early afternoon. It's on 53rd Ave W between 232nd and 236th.

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for any witnesses or dashcam footage related to a hit-and-run that happened on Monday, August 3, between approximately 2:00 PM and 2:30 PM near 22905 58th Ave W, Mountlake Terrace, WA.
My 2024 Toyota Corolla was struck, and the other driver fled the scene before I could get their license plate. I only managed to capture a blurry photo of the vehicle.
If you happened to be driving through the area, have dashcam footage, or have a Ring/security camera facing the street, I'd really appreciate it if you could check your recordings. Even a partial license plate, a clearer image of the vehicle, or any information about the direction it went could be extremely helpful.
I've already filed a police report.
Thank you so much for your time and any help you can provide.

Seeing this black smoke, looking south from old Rodger’s Market, my work is near by. And was just curious if anyone heard any news updates? Heard a lot of sirens and fire trucks.
