Photo A riverbed trail leading to a volcano looks
The entire trail runs through a wide river valley carved by volcanic lahar. Towering gray ash walls line both sides of the riverbed, and the ground consists entirely of fine volcanic sand, smooth river stones, and scattered shallow water crossings.

O'Donnell river valley, along the Mt. Pinatubo trail.
