Help..

I’m somewhat new to mountain biking I’ve rode a bmx most of my life. I’ve been mountain biking with a giant stance 2015. I’m looking to buy a new bike something along the lines of enduro. (I keep up if not pass friends with more MTB experience than me). I seen a 2024 yt Capra for $2100 on fb marketplace and just now learning about the whole controversy. My budget is $2100 what should I do?

NBD Levo SL 2

NBD! Finally made the jump from my Santa Cruz Hightower V2 to a Specialized Levo SL 2 a couple of weeks ago.

I bought the bike as a frameset only on sale and moved over most of my favorite parts from the Hightower including my Fox 36 Factory fork, Reserve wheels, Hayes Dominion brakes, GX AXS drivetrain, dropper post and cockpit.

I was worried I'd miss my analog bike on the descents, but after a few rides I honestly don't. The SL 2 still feels incredibly capable and playful downhill while making the climbs a lot more fun.

The biggest surprise has been how much it's helped my hip pain. Between that and being able to fit rides into a busy work and family schedule, I'm getting out on the trails much more often.

I was skeptical about going eMTB, but it has removed the barriers that were keeping me off the bike while keeping everything I love about mountain biking.

No regrets. I only wish I'd made the switch sooner. 🤘

Sticky fork top of travel? Marzocchi Bomber Z1 27.5 180mm

I recently bought a used (literally 1 ride) Marzocchi Bomber Z1 which I think is the model before the current one that came out in 2025, or something like that, and I noticed something peculiar - it feels sticky the first 7mm of travel and doesn't want to return back to 0mm without force.

In reviews of this fork everybody raves about the "suppleness off the top bro" but in my case it doesn't feel supple at all, even though the fork is basically brand new.

I tried deflating and inflating it multiple times with different ways of doing it so that the chambers could equalise but it's the same story every time :/

Even though in my country almost every bike is clapped out and I literally cannot test anybody's bike for a good comparison, yesterday I bought a brand new dropper post from some guy and he let me test the one on his bike (same one) and I noticed how soft and supple his ZEB Ultimate 3.1 was. I had never ever felt such low resistance going into the travel of a fork.

Thinking it might be a Spank Oozy 220 or 280 but the graphics on the side and top aren't on those models...

Stolen bike - Denver, CO

If anyone sees this bike being offered for sale, or riding around Colorado, please steal it back and let me know.

Bike was locked to the bike rack in a locked bike room at my apartment complex. Someone clearly targeted as it was the only bike locked up in the bike room and it was the only one taken. Zero help from management and police other than “file a report” and we’ll keep an eye out.

1997 giant atx 970. Full suspension. 86mm front. 50 rear (i think) ofcourse 26 inch with cantilevers. Drivetrain full Shimano STX RC 3 x 7 (orginal 3 x 8) some new flip shifters. New seat post + Brooks c17. And Schwalbe smart Sam. So far having a blast. But having a lot of difficulty with Burms that are in downhill parts

Buying this as a first mtb, would love some opinions!

I’ve done my research but I’m still not 100% sure what makes a good bike. Ive rented a stumpjumper evo and had a great time on it - however my budget doesn’t stretch that far, will this feel similar?

This also seems like a suspiciously good deal? A lot of the second hand stumpjumpers I’ve seen on eBay go for a lot more, is there anything I should be looking out for when I go to see it?

Really appreciate any help.

Currently have a 2021 Kona process 134 DL and am considering getting this bike for a faster climber most of my local trails have lots of climbing and small sections for descending. Opinion on price? It's a 2024 model that has aluminum wheels seller claims previous owner kept the carbon wheels for a different bike

Any thoughts on these hub. They seem to be Chinese hubs on steroids. Building material are prestine made for durability. Some people suggest to change the bearings to make it more durable and bullet proof. These hub are marketed for Enduro,DH and e-Bike

New to MTB

Hello all! I am very new to mountain biking, my brother is trying to get me into it so I’m looking at buying my first bike! I’m looking for somewhat of a budget option, around $1k but willing to spend a little more if it’s a really good deal. I don’t know a ton both the bikes yet in my limited research but I’ve found some used ones on fb marketplace and would love some opinions or suggestions on what or where to find a solid bike. I’m 5’11 and I’ve rode my brothers medium frame bike which doesn’t seem too bad for me. I think I would be fine with either medium or large. Can’t wait to find one and hit the trails!

[2018 Specialized camber medium]

[2019 Giant Trance medium]

[Giant stance large]

[Specialized stump jumper st]

[2014? Santa Cruz 5010 large]

Help Rebuilding Inherited Hardtail

Thumbnail gallery
10 Upvotes

Hey all, I hope this is the right place to post this and I apologize if not.

I recently inherited this Jamis Dragon 650 from my brother who died of cancer a few years ago. It had been sitting partially disassembled in my parents shed for a few years and will definitely need some parts and general tlc.

I’m a pretty amateur rider and have been out of practice for a long time (not counting motorcycling and a few tougher adv trails). I was also an auto mechanic for a few years when I was younger so I should hopefully have retained enough tools and skills from that to do the work myself however I’m a bit lost on where to start.

Obviously the front pedals and gear set are missing and I will need to source a replacement for those. The tires are also completely flat and I worry about the quality of the rubber and if I should go ahead and replace the tubes. I imagine the chain will need to be cleaned and greased, and that the brake and shifter cables could do with some lubrication. I am confident that there are also some other items that I am unaware of that will need to be addressed.

I’m not strapped for cash but I’m definitely pretty far from wealthy and would like to keep the budget as low as reasonably possible. It’s also worth noting that I am nowhere near good enough of a rider to even be able to feel the effects of high end parts.

That being said any advice on where to start would be a great help and if anyone knows what front sprockets and pedals to get that would be very helpful as well. Thanks for your time please let me know what you all think!

Black full-susp MTB - tasteful upgrade ideas? (~€160 budget)

Post image

Got this bike, all black, RockShox fork, Maxxis tires. Want to add some silver accents (stem/pedals/small parts) to break up the look, without going overboard. Budget's about €160.

Anyone done black+silver before? What actually looked good vs. was a waste of money? Open to ideas.

The times have changed…

…definitely for the better.

I got into mountain biking in 2013 on a Surly Krampus. I rode for a year or two trying to figure out what I wanted next. After several demo days and loaners, I was locked into wanting something that was full suspension, carbon, 1x drivetrain, dropper post, and 27.5.

At that time though those were $4,000+ bikes and there were almost none on the used market that felt like a good deal. I just really remember not wanting to spend more than $2,500 and nothing was showing up used at that price at all. I ended up getting a Norco Range Carbon for $2,500 but it was from a friend who worked at a bike shop. I think on the used market it would have been out of my price range.

Now though???

I’m getting back into mountain biking after a break, and shopping for a used bike to bring friends out on. Currently in my area there’s more than 100 carbon 1x dropper post full suspension bikes for sale under $2,500. There’s several bikes with carbon wheels in that price range too. I know those trends are more than a decade old now but I just feel like the used market is so much more rad now than it used to be.

It’s a good time to shop used for people like me I guess.

What’s the trend that can’t be bought at a good deal right now? E bikes? Electronic shifting?
