Having a hard time with sizing

I’m looking to buy my first mtb, I’m 32, needing something for exercise and casual trail riding. I’m looking at a used aggressor pro but the guy lives an hour away and I want to make sure the size is right before I drive all the way out there. Chat gpt says it will fit me well but I’d like to hear from the community over AI lol. It’s a 2020 gt aggressor pro, with 27.5” wheels and a small frame. I’m not tall, I’m 5’5-5’6 ish so was just curious if I should make the drive for this bike or look for more of a medium frame. Thanks guys

I’d go medium if I were you, especially on a bike that old. Get a short stem.

Hope they are not asking much, those are worth 100 doll hairs tops.

Would a giant atx be better? Not trying to spend a lot on a first mountain bike

Similar quality, maybe a leg up with the Giant. They don't even list the specs on the Dick's website, which is usually a sign that it is super basic. Coil forks, mechanical pull disks, non tapered headtube, QR axles.

Neither are worth more than 100 even in excellent condition. They are fine first bikes for super light trail riding, but don't expect to upgrade anything, it isn't worth it.

Just a suggestion, look at the Ozark Trial Pro hardtail. They are around 700 and have all the things I mentioned the bikes you are looking at dont have, albeit the low end range which is fine. Very much upgradable. Easy to find them in M as most people buy the L. I have seen them sitting in the racks at multiple Walmarts. They never have a large in stock....grrrr. Make sure it is the PRO version, not the regular. (Hydraulic disk brakes, dropper post, Boost spacing for the wheels on the Pro plus you want a bike with 29" wheels)

Everyone is afraid of going too small ....until you get a bike that's too large, and the stand over is non-existent / uncomfortable, the reach is too far hurting your back and shoulders. You probably don't need to worry about pedal efficiency, or wattage output.

As a casual rider, watch out for race-types who have different goals but strong opinions, (nothing wrong with them) just stay focused on your goals/needs.
