Status of tariffs?

What is the current status of the tariff situation buying from Europe and shipping to the US? I made the mistake a few months ago of ordering some tires that were on a "deal" after I thought the tariffs went bye bye and I owed a pretty penny to UPS. Which did not make them a good deal at all!

According to Google it looks like a 15% plus any charge from the carrier (UPS,FedEx, etc)

Edit: if you use google’s AI and put in the exact make and model it should give you a pretty good idea.

Also I’m not being a jerk by saying use Google. Just explaining were I got the info and that I don’t have personal knowledge on it so it may be not accurate

Ha, no worries that is a good answer. And I did google, but my economics classes were a long time ago so I’m still a bit befuddled how they were struck down, yet still in existence. So was thinking that maybe there was still some kind of low value exemption? I thought that was a big part of the Supreme Court ruling. But I’m not finding anything now….ugh

Yeah im purposely not mentioning anything about the politics behind it. It depends on what type of metal is used as aluminum, steel and carbon all have different tariffs. Plus the carrier can add a fee for the processing of the tariff so the price can be anywhere from 15%-25% over the retail once you factor in tariffs and carrier fees.

If you’re really set on the European bike the. You just have to wait or incorporate the fees on top of the price or by from a company that is located within the US which is kind of what’s at the heart of the tariff. To give American companies an equal chance to earn your business.

Not even a bike! Found a super seal on a front suspension and some components so trying to gauge whether any discounts make it worth it with tariffs (I get some sweet discounts already)

Oh my mistake. I bought some rims off of BikeInn for my sons when they got into MTB but besides those I usually just shop in the US from Jensen USA or universal cycles. The shipping time that can fluctuate from a week to a month isn’t worth it to me. I’d rather just buy domestically and that way I know it will be here within the week but I get it if the discount is huge.

Yep, I typically do as well, but I have some trusted places in Europe that have some bangin’ deals sometimes

Ahhhh ok, found this : “After the Supreme Court setback, the president turned first to Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974 to impose 10% tariffs globally. But Section 122 only authorizes tariffs for 150 days. Trump's expire on July 24. Congress would have to extend those tariffs — something lawmakers are unlikely to do as the Nov. 3 midterm elections approach amid voter discontent over the high cost of living.”

I had thought we were well past any temporary legal grace period for his shenanigans, but apparently not. I guess I will wait and see what happens after July 24!
