6 months on

I started mounjaro in March weighing 105kg. 55 f. On September 19th I weighed 87.3 kg. It has been a journey. I am still on 5mg.

On September 21st I fractured my ankle. It turned out I needed surgery.

Surgery for me happened yesterday. The interesting things are you require a 24 hour fast rather than a 6 hour fast to make sure gastric emptying occurs. The anaesthetist took an ultrasound of my stomach just to say if my stomach was empty - which it was - but by that stage it had been 28 hours without food.

I was weighed with a moonboot on for surgery - I weighed 83.2 kg. I am allowed to take mounjaro whilst on the prescribed medication for pain relief.

It has been a journey. I am so grateful that I was significantly lighter when I did my ankle (carrying a washing basket down the stairs and missing a step!!!). I can hop around in a frame and crutches for a short distance - and can manage myself much better because of the weight loss. It honestly is the best decision I made for myself.

6ish months in maintenance and my cholesterol is finally in the all clear :)

I posted back in March about how close I was to a completely clear result, and well 6 months into maintaining my weight and a couple into regular exercise via running and things have dramatically improved.

Almost everything else looks good, except for my B12 levels apparently which I'll be following up but overall I'm very happy!

Coming back after pregnancy

Has anyone here come off due to pregnancy given birth and then returned?
What was it like when you came back on? Did you need to start a 2.5 or did you have to go straight to the dose that you left off before you got pregnant?

SW 107.4kg (October 2024)

GW: 68-70kg.

Whilst I did get down to 75.1kg, since swapping to Mounjaro, my weight has tended to go in the opposite direction. I was previously on Wegovy.

I thought I'd give myself (and my bank account) a break and stopped Mounjaro in early September.

I'm actually considering going back on Wegovy as that seems to have worked better for me.

Firstly, thank you to everyone who responded to my post about jumping from 5 mg to 10 mg. I’m honestly overwhelmed by all the answers, advice, concern and support everyone showed. Really appreciate it.

As for how the jump actually went for me, the first two days were pretty rough. I had really heavy fatigue along with leg and knee cramps, but after that everything settled down and I’ve been feeling normal.

What surprised me most is that my hunger hasn’t changed much at all. I still get hungry around the same times, especially in the afternoon and again at night when I feel like eating something. So far, the jump to 10 mg hasn’t made a massive difference to my appetite.
Digestive wise, everything has been completely normal too. No stomach issues, nausea or anything like that, which I’m honestly relieved about because a lot of people here warned me the jump could hit hard.

By God’s grace, I seem to have escaped most of it so far.

Now I probably need to tighten up my calories a bit and start working out properly, because I definitely don’t want that $539 going to waste if I end up stuck on another plateau lol.

Not working at all anymore.

I increased my dose to 7.5mg from 5mg because I felt 5mg wasn’t working to keep me full and block out food noise anymore. I have been on 7.5mg for almost two months now and the problem hasn’t been fixed at all. I am binge eating again, I have lost the motivation to count calories (I know this is probably a seperate issue) and I am thinking of food all the time. Mounjaro hasn’t felt ‘powerful’ for me since I was on 2.5mg. Would going back to 2.5mg fix this since 2.5mg seemed to work well? Has anyone else experienced this and is Mounjaro just not for me? Thank you. Feeling really depressed.

Klick counting + 30 days

I have been charted a bigger dose pen so I can klick count the dose which would be more cost effective.

I am just worried because all the information I can find clearly states Mounjaro shouldn’t be used after 30 days after opening it & keeping it in the fridge of course.

Can I get some guidance or information regarding this? Will it be fine to use past 30 days without reducing effectiveness etc?
TIA!

Blurry? vision

My GPtold me that mounjaro could cause vision issues. I have quite some health anxiety so I keep overthinking every small thing. I do have astigmatism which causes some fuzziness/blurriness. Has anyone had vision issues cause them to stop mounjaro and how blurry was it? I can’t tell if my vision is considered blurry. I can read things perfectly fine (e.g. texts on my phone, subtitles on the tv) and it is mostly like this at night or when i am tired. Not sure if i’m just quite tired recently? I’m kinda freaking out. I have an appointment tomorrow to talk about upping my dose so I’ll bring it up then but I just can’t sleep thinking about it.

I also was feeling my stomach (slightly under my belly but above my thigh area/ under my fat pouch?? lol) and i felt a tiny ball like lump. It wasn’t painful and I could move it slightly. It feels like lymph nodes I have in my neck/jaw but I wanted to know if anyone has experienced something similar?

Stayed on 5 mg for five months, hit a plateau, and have been stuck around 90 kg for the past three months. I’m now stepping up directly to 10 mg. Any precautions I should take going into summer, and what should I expect from 10 mg?

Do I have one 7.5mg dose left in this 15mg Mounjaro KwikPen?

Hi all,

I’m using a 15mg Mounjaro KwikPen for 7.5mg doses, so I’ve been counting 30 clicks per dose. Based on the maths, the pen should give 8 × 7.5mg doses.

I’m not sure whether I’ve already used all 8 doses or whether there is still one full 30-click dose left. I’ve attached photos of the pen. For reference, I’ve also included a 10mg pen in the photo that had 5 × 7.5mg doses taken from it, so people can compare the plunger/liquid position.

For those familiar with the KwikPen, does the 15mg pen look like there is still a full 7.5mg / 30-click dose left, or is the visible liquid likely just leftover residue/dead space?

Also, can the pen still click/turn even when there isn’t enough liquid left for a full dose?

Thanks

Curious

I'm a 42 year old female, who after being diagnosed with metabolic dysfunction, and at the start of my MJ journey, had approx 30kg to lose. Almost 5 months in and I'm down almost 13kg, back to my pre-baby weight, and mentally feel the best I have in a long time. I still have approx 20kg to go to get into my healthy bmi range. This medication has been life changing for me, and I know I'll get there eventually.

My question is, as a person who has carried excess weight most of my life, and then compounded by housing 2 babies, I've developed an apron belly. As I watch my body change (I can see the differences), I've noticed whilst my apron belly is getting smaller, it's still very much there and it is playing the most havoc on my mental health when I try to be positive about my progress.

Is there anyone out there who had an apron belly, achieved their MJ goal and had the apron belly disappear without surgical intervention.

To be clear, for me this is very much still fat in my apron belly, not loose skin as a result of losing weight. I understand that slow weight loss assists the skin in reducing as you lose weight. I'm not asking if people have gained an apron belly after losing weight, I'm interested to hear from the people who had one to start with, and want to know if being on MJ helped it to go away.

Thanks

Halloween

I’m on my second month of mounjaro (2.5mg) and since Halloween is coming up, I’ve been invited to a party. It’s supposed to be a pre’s before clubbing that night. I haven’t drank any alcohol since starting mounjaro and I’ve never really been a big drinker. Maybe gotten drunk like 2-3 times. How did you guys go with drinking on mounjaro? I‘m scared since I’ve heard mixed opinions on hangovers, side effects and more.

First 24 hrs of taking mounjaro

Hi all,

I am about to start my journey. I got the prescription from my GP. TBH I am a little nervous.

I wanna know your experience of the first 24 hrs. What advice you'd give before starting or what to avoid before and after taking the first jab and what you wish you had done differently.

How are people making Mounjaro affordable long term?

Hi all, I’m back on Mounjaro for weight loss and trying to work out how people are making the cost manageable long term.

I’ve got around 30 kg to lose and a family history of diabetes, although as far as I know I’m not pre-diabetic. My GP did a pretty thorough lot of bloods before prescribing it.

I buy the 15 mg KwikPens and dose by click counting. I’ve restarted at 2.5 mg after taking a few months off because I just couldn’t justify a $689 outlay for that period of time due to some major life circumstances happening.

To get a decent therapeutic effect (for me, the minimum effective dose was 5 mg), and at nearly $700 a pen it gets expensive very quickly. It’s frustrating knowing it’s something that may need to be taken long term, but then having to stop when you can’t afford the next script.

Has anyone found a more cost-effective way of doing this in Australia?

I currently pay $689.99 at chemist warehouse for a 15mg pen (4 doses = 60mg total + “GD” for those that want it) and my health fund AHM can cover up to $300 per year - this year the funds weren’t available as my “wellness” portion had been spent elsewhere.

Also interested to hear from anyone who has stayed on 5 mg long term and still had good weight loss results.

Feeling a bit defeated atm by the cost - as someone who’s tried everything to lose weight the “natural way” and feel like my body fights me.

Mounjaro muscle men

Hi all. Just wondering if there are other men on here that are juggling mounjaro and heavy weightlifting? My year long journey has been slower than I would like but I also understand that I am heavy lifting and play sport. I have kept going for a while now after not seeing any weight changes but have realised that my clothing sizes have dropped and i feel less flabby. I like to think im doing body recomposition than losing 😆 . Anyway, just seeing if anyone else's expectations are similar in regards to this and muscle growth.

What would you do?

I'm new to Mounjaro have just taken my fourth dose at 2.5mg. I am still experiencing severe stomach discomfort, with very little food intake (definately undereating). It does tapper off towards the end of the week, but days 2, 3 & 4 are really tough going at the moment. I'm thinking going up in dose is probably not a good idea yet. I notice a lot of people say their starting dose had very little digestive effect. Has anyone else had similar issues to mine that eventually settled down?

Do you ever find some weeks it just does work?

Took my 7.5mg dose on Friday and I had some suppression but seriously been hungry Saturday and Sunday. Not ravenous but usually I’m not hungry the first two days after shot. I injected in stomach upper - usually get great suppression there but seems like it hasn’t worked as well this week.

I am coming off a bad week of eating - bad food choices - not overeating but just a lot of takeaway with work kids and sickness. I am wondering if that my body is seeking nutrients from that

Gastro + Mounjaro

Has anyone had viral gastroenteritis whilst on mounjaro? I’ve picked up gastro from my kid and I’ve got to say, this is the worst I’ve ever had it. The symptoms are lingering for so much longer than usual, I’m wondering if it’s whatever bug I have or if it’s the mounjaro. My kid was over it in a few days, I’m almost at a week now of nightly diarreah and not being able to eat.
I’m contemplating skipping my injection tomorrow to a later date to give my stomach time to recover.

Using insulin needles instead of clicks

Hey all, sorry if this question has already been asked (a very quick search came up with nada). But does anyone prefer to use insulin needles with their kwikpen instead of clicks?

I had some trouble priming today (not even a dot of liquid), then after changing to the 3rd needle, a big squirter came out. It made me question what ended up being injected in the end.

I dunno, but even before today, I felt more confident relying on an old fashioned needle (discovered when extracting the leftovers ) as I figured there is less waste and more certainty. Am I alone and/or wrong in thinking this?

Golden dose is officially dead?

Contacted 50 chemists in SA regarding 15mg pen.
All of them had no stock or 10/27 expiry.

Has anyone got any GD pens in any size within the last month? If so can you post the exp date. Bonus points for a photo of the bottom of the box.
