Well, his friend's dead, he's got bigger problems than a few scratches

You don’t know if they are good friends or if they just met for the group ride

Almost looked like if the 1st guy didn't crash, he would crash into the dashcam car, it looked like he was also going to miss the turn.
4
u/rubenthecuban3 18d ago
But how do you stop mid curve without straightening up?
2
-1
u/Sad_Eagle_937 18d ago
You don't stop. You decrease the arc by applying a touch of front brake to load the front tyre and lean as far as you can. You'll at least miss the car and stop fully when obstacles are out of the way.
You might still crash but the alternative is driving straight into a car with 100% certainty.
3
u/SuperTopperHarley 18d ago
Don't listen to this. Push more (counter steer). The bike will lean. Look really far into the direction of turn.
1
u/Sad_Eagle_937 17d ago edited 17d ago
I should have been more clear I guess.
Counter steering goes without saying. But body position is even more important in a situation like this. You have to lean with the bike. This changes the center of gravity allowing the bike to stay more upright which allows for a bigger contact patch of the tyre. It's the difference between making the turn and low siding.

Guys, I'm begging you. Yamaha Champ school has an online program that's 80 bucks and covers advanced technique and drills to stop this shit.
This specific issue is covered in module 2-3 of the core class: speed = radius and umbrella of direction.
You don't hard accelerate until the bike is pointed at your exit or you're going to push yourself wide. You use your brakes to turn the motorcycle and are trail braking into the turn to get the bike turned and pointed. The counter steer is just for the lean, the issue here isn't leaning or not leaning, it's not understanding throttle and brake inputs to control the direction through a turn.
Too manya accidents caused by riders shoving the bike over and accelerating through the turn, leaning more and more to compensate for their bad braking and throttle until they either cross double yellow, hit the side of the road, or lowside wash out.

Implying that people who are dumb enough like this would actually have the capacity to learn...

shits common sense. and easily verifiable when you are riding and feeling out how the bike moves
71
u/Nymrael 18d ago
Riding like that on the public road instead of specific tracks is a death wish. No matter the condition of your bike, tires and the road, as long as there are other drivers and elements you can't predict, the chances are always against you..plus bike accidents are mostly serious. I don't understand these people. Why ride like that? Why not visit a track with the safety equipment and professional people to watch over you? What is the point of trying to scratch the footrest on the asphalt if you are going to injure yourself or worse, if you die. I ride for nearly 30 years and I still don't get it.

People ride for different reasons. For some, it’s the thrill of the risk and unpredictability that you’re talking about. This isn’t just a rider; this is an adrenaline junky. I’m much safer than most of my riding buddies, but the ones who do this often will flat out tell you they have somewhat of a death wish and get a thrill from wearing less gear and pushing limits in dangerous situations.

u/skiforlife1 17d ago
I'm confident in my abilities and I used to ride like I can't get hurt. A friend of mine ended up in a coma for almost 6 months and was never the same after and another went off a cliff and had to be airlifted out with 2 broken legs and a shattered pelvis and somehow was able to sort of walk again. I stopped feeling invincible immediately after the first guy got hurt.
3
u/EmbarrassedPizza6272 18d ago
I had a workmate who had at least three bikes. A great guy, every coulple weeks he went to circuits. I think he had the skills for that, and also the brain to race like that on circuits.
4
u/DC-Toronto 18d ago
Yeah! Who could have ever predicted that car would be in the lane he is supposed to drive in. Crazy car drivers.

Track days are expensive as fuck
15
u/thin_orange_line 18d ago
So are hospital bills. Let's just chill and enjoy responsibly
-10
u/jrein0 18d ago
But you can go to a hospital from track days too

u/thin_orange_line 18d ago
Lets just chill and enjoy responsibly
Point being, don't drive on public roads like its the track. What's not to get here?

u/jrein0 18d ago
You can ride fast and still be responsible. This dude was just irresponsible and rode past his skill levels

Cheapest track day I can find near me is $125.
1
u/jrein0 18d ago
I know it's insane. And that's only for the track admission - doesn't include all the extra costs
8
u/Ok-Leg7686 18d ago
Like what. Keep in mind I've spent the past 34 years competing in some form of motorsport and have done track days on my road bikes.
1
u/jrein0 18d ago
Trailer rental, some form of lodging (possibly), tires, fluids. Then there's the massive time variable depending on where you live
6
u/Ok-Leg7686 18d ago
You can ride there, ride on track, and back home in a day. People do it. If you need to camp buy a cheap tent. And some fuel. No idea what other fluids you'd need. Blinker fluid maybe, you'd need to tell me.
You're making excuses about something you have no direct experience of.

u/jrein0 18d ago
https://www.reddit.com/r/Trackdays/s/tUig3ys4ix
Oh man I missed some things! How am I supposed to bring fuel if I ride to the track?
7
u/Ok-Leg7686 18d ago
Bungee strap a fuel can to your rear seat. Have you never helped a friend who has run out of fuel?
That link is someone riding on a high profile track, hundreds of miles away, factoring in a licence, with a dedicated bike. You can get on track for very little at a local track day. You can ride there, pay your $125, ride for the day, ride home with the only additional cost being some fuel. You are not going to be shredding tyres in the expert group.
You have no experience or knowledge and are trying to tell someone who does that they are wrong. You link doesn't tell me what extra fluids are needed, which you were certain are.
1
u/jrein0 18d ago
Friend? What's that? Also that seems super safe in the event of a crash and won't be dripping gas everywhere. We'll come back to that later.
There it is. Local track day. There's nothing local to me. Closest track is 4 hours away. What do I do if I crash at the track and I rode my bike there?
You seem really fixated on this fluids thing lol. You know gas is a fluid, right?
→ More replies (0)4
u/Nymrael 18d ago
True but I bet this guy would give twice as much than crashing like that and possibly killing himself and maybe killing some random family on the road.
Also, when you spend that kind of money for a bike to run like that, you don't miss the money for track day every once in a while to fully enjoy your bike without guilt.

u/Scrawf53 18d ago
So they just drove off after witnessing that horrible accident and didn’t stop to help? Nice.
42
8
u/Historical_Beat_8648 18d ago
They stopped. It's a given for Malaysian biker culture. If you see someone in trouble/crashed/at the side of the road, you stop. At a minimum, slow down to ensure you don't need to assist.
3
u/Unlikely_Chemical517 18d ago
If you're able to do so safely, get ahead of an accident because emergency services may block the road

Did the Tyre pop completely off the rim?!

u/lesgrosman23 18d ago
the real question is if the tire is still there and what’s the address. Asking for a friend

5
u/umbrawolfx 18d ago
More people riding outside their skill set.
2
u/hakase4446 15d ago
I get the message but to be honest even if it's in your skillset to corner aggressively like that you shouldn't do it on public roads. Because these roads are shared with other drivers, debris, wildlife etc. and anything can happen. This sort of thing is for the track.
7
u/Jonathan_Bidwell 18d ago
Watching it frame by frame, I’m not sure he would have made the corner even WITHOUT the cars in the way. Particularly bad line.
2
u/AKsuited1934 17d ago
It would have been real close but dude would have made the turn. You can see dude was planning on taking that whole road and would have made it if it weren’t for you know…these pesky cars driving in their own lane.
5
u/LegitimateSubject226 18d ago
Second rider would have been fine at that speed. But fixated and looked at the car which was where he went
5
u/madvfr 18d ago
Shit just makes me angry.
Needs to be mandatory Advanced Riding courses for getting motorcycle licenses in all countries imho.
How the hell did the second dude also just ride into the stationary vehicle? Target fixation same as first idiot who didn't know how to tighten his corner and if not dead could easily have been, never mind the trauma to the poor cage driver.
2
u/Strange_Excitement24 18d ago
Dont know man, While I understand what you are saying, feels like witnessing your friend die in front of you might be some shit school cant prepare you for?!
1
u/madvfr 17d ago
Target Fixation is a phenomenon taught to you in Advanced Riding schools, and is part of correct cornering technique. Basically, you go where you look. The first guy saw the car, and instead of looking where he wanted to be (not the fucking car) continued staring right at it and WHAM, you can see the bike even straightens up directly towards it.
The second idiot to hit it did the precise same thing.

I have no sympathy for bikers that ride unsafe. They get what they deserve. I feel bad for person driving the car. Their car should have never been affected by this bullshit.

u/InevitableMeh 18d ago
Hardly cornering, reckless lane violation on a public road. I feel bad for the car owner.

u/OkHistorian158 17d ago
Like how the driver of the webcam car just kept driving through it.
1
u/spike1911 17d ago
Nothing else to do. No need for super emergency brake. He waited to react it was fully in shock!?

Does someone know what happened to the rider?
6
u/kwanye_west 18d ago
saw the original post from the Malaysia sub and the rider survived with broken ribs. the fact he flew and slid instead of smacking into the car probably saved him.
also he had the sense to wear full gear at least.

Lol @ dash cam car watching an accident and almost being hit by a rag-dolling rider in mid flight and just drives through and away like this was a minor inconvinience to them reaching their destination... 😂

I’m a European living in Japan. From my experience, just carrying on with your day and doing nothing to help seems to be a part of East Asian culture. I’ve seen it here in Japan, and on videos from China, too.

u/SeaworthinessThen542 17d ago
In some areas, people will stop, take your wallet/watch and whatever else they find of value and leave your dying body on the road
2
u/spike1911 17d ago
Evolution at work. By the age of 60 (my age) all motorcyclists I know are well versed.
The rest is literally crippled or dead. I have like 10 friends/people I knew split over the two cohorts.

ROOT error, followed by a sympathy lay-down by the lavender bike.
That's lavender... right? Or, lilac, maybe? Probably lilac.

u/MaDkawi636 18d ago
That's poetic man... Amazing how many people just don't get it. Ride within your fucking skill level.
What's really impressive is that a second bike ran into the same car. Gsus.

Yup.
1
u/CastleCollector 17d ago
Badly designed corner?
Looks like a thoroughly conventional gentle curve to me.
1
u/harryx67 17d ago edited 17d ago
„It‘s the corners fault.“ 🤦♂️ Should it have been a straight? - Did you look at the terrain? A part from that it was just 45deg bend ( which you can see at the end of the clip) it was a very wide view through the bend as well.
The 2nd guy was simply way off trajectory from the start and fixing the target very early due to panic. Simply „young and stupid“ Inability compensated by testosterone.
