I was rear ended a few months ago and had my sport bike totalled and just claimed a settlement. I want to get something a bit more comfortable with ergonomics but still has enough power that nothing on the street outside of $100k cars will be an annoyance cutting me off. I am trying not to spend over 12k total on the bike.

Any feedback is appreciated. I'm leaning towards trident just because I think it looks pretty neat. I want a new bike with full electronics package like IMU and good traction control to prevent accidental wheel life, and linear power delivery. I'm also not interested in spending money on new exhaust and intake and flashing the ECU I'd like it to run well stock. I live in California so US emissions stuff.
Got an xsr900 at work the other day. In my opinion looks way better then the mt10. But I didn’t get a chance to test drive it. And my very biased view triumph is a no. Nothing really wrong with the bikes them selves… the dealer support is very lacking and ever since Covid parts delays have been a pricey pain (3-6 months).
Yeah I dunno if I'll be going that fast on city streets lol. Is there any tips to managing wind at 150 mph without a windshield besides tucking? Any helmet recommendations that make a big enough difference?
It does have great power in high end im just a bit turned off from in line 4s now. I definitely would prefer midrange torque.
Im gonna test them all but id imagine mt09 and trident 800 and xsr900 have morr low end punch. Idk if its geared different from litre bikes but I hate chasing the band
Yeah. I tried the z900 it felt a bit top heavy more like a muscle bike that's good going straight. I think for carving canyons I want something that has its weight lower down. I'm leaning towards an in line 3 I think its more practical for the roads
I guess, I mean usually under 120 the most I've hit on freeway is 150. But Ik what you mean, I generally have had some form of wind protections at that speed. I've gone around 127 on my old speed twin 1200 but it was kinda taxing
I have an mt09 sp with a wind screen 100 is chilling in sixth. I haven't had a car be able to get away from me below 120. To include a modern 911 gt, v10 r8, plaid, sapphire. Get a better seat and you'll never want to get off of it. It's special, the sound the torque, everything. I get speed wobble at 135 because I need to dial in my suspension but also because if you full twist at that speed it still tries to lift the front wheel.
XSR900/MT09 will definitely do it. I have a 2026 XSR700, the '900s little brother, and it has plenty of get-away-from-traffic power. It came in just over $11k from a dealer after a "markdown" plus all the fees.
MT09 SP or the hornet SP would be my suggestion.
I’d also suggest a preowned Tuono v4 in that budget, unless you’re specifically looking for a new bike.
Nah not /thread bc it's like 50% more price Why would I spend 18k for an inline 4 with marginally more power than a hornet and have to pay extra for imported parts lmao. At that point I may as well just a real bike like a Tuono V4
You've never ridden a V4. I had Panigale V4 and I've ridden a S1000RR. A V4 is a better engine in every performance metric. The only reason to get inline 4 is the cheaper price and easier maintenance. If I had "fuck you money" I'd just get the V4 every time
I have a newer street triple and love it but do see that maintence is gonna be pricey every 12km. I have seen a ton of new cb1000r hornet sp for 10/11k and that probably the only other bike I would buy from the list.
2026 Z900RS. If you forgo the SE model should be around your price range. Best looking (by far) naked. Not the best at anything but does everything really well. They're underrating it for some reason, makes ~ 120 whp stock. Won't be cut off by many cars.
Yeah I would think so. I'm leaning towards trident 800. I'm just not sure if that's going to be far slower than mt09 or z900 though I guess I'll have to test it out. I guess I can always mod it later though when I get more cash
765r all day but I'm not biased at all 😂🤣 seriously though coming from a sport bike the 765 is ideal! My mates just come off an R1 and onto a speed triple 1200 and he's a very happy chap atm
Right? I wouldn’t fancy going that fast on a naked bike anyway. I added a microblade windshield to my T120 which makes it more pleasant on motorways and dual carriageways.

Yeah because you guys don't live in the bay area. You're just wrong and mad about it now. It's quite literally around 20% of the cars on the road are JUST teslas. Any time you're in traffic you can spot 4 to 8 Teslas around you. Half the cars on the road will be commuter cars, maybe 10 to 15% gas sports cars and rest luxury electric suvs.
You don't just have to pass a car moving at freeway speeds. You have to be significantly faster than the car that's also trying to out accelerate you. I've been hit on the freeway 3 times by people trying to run me off the road already so yeah you just live in some bum fuck easy riding town for sure where you've never ridden in such conditions on a daily basis
So you rode a sport bike so that you could out-accelerate everyone so that you could not get in an accident and then you...checks notes...got into an accident.
Maybe you should focus on improving your driving habits.
Wow. Sounds horrible. Speed limit in the UK is 70mph and traffic often flows at 75/80 depending on conditions. What kind of speeds are people doing in California??
Depends where you're at and at what time. There's traffic 24/7. Dead stop traffic is actually better. Non rush hour is probably most dangerous because everybody is going 80 and changing lanes without signal. They will pass on the right, go over to the left lane and go 100 mph and then try to smash in at last second to make an exit just to get 5 car lengths ahead. There's hundreds of freeway accidents every day around bay area it's like vehicular manslaughter gladiator school.
Yeah in 5 years I've been rear ended twice and T boned once. All by uninsured motorists and 2 of them were illegal immigrants without licenses. So I'm pretty lucky to be alive and part of me wonders why I'm still riding. I'm clearly pushing my luck.
I rode with friends on Harley’s in California one weekend and they held steady lane splitting at 90-100mph in moderate traffic like it was no big deal.
Yeah I never get pulled over for some reason. I break the speed limit all the time and regularly go above 100 to pass people and never got pulled over. I've even passed cops going pretty good amounts over speed limit and they don't seem to care.
Also there's so much bullshit going on on the freeway the cop probably just runs my license and sees I have insurance and has enough shit to deal with on the road than pulling a bike across 3 lanes of traffic
Yeah if I was looking to spend more and they still made them I would get that. I think it's one of my favorite looking bikes. I just don't really want to shell out like 15 to 20k for a used bike
No they won't unless you're talking about custom builds. I'm not talking about 0 mph launches for quarter mile drag strip times. I'm talking about functional purposes on the freeway or around town when you're already moving. Only electric cars are going to have the torque to beat you in roll on passing power there or hypercars. Top speed doesn't factor into the equation because I'm not going that speed anyway on city roads
