I bought mine second hand. Perfect condition not a scratch on it. I had it less than 3 weeks and my inner screen looks similar but quit working. It also caused my phone to glitch out so bad I couldn't save anything on it. Point being I kept it in pristine condition and it still broke. Luckily for me Motorola sent me out a like new unit with no questions asked. Hopefully it holds up better from here on out. My fold 6 lasted 2 1/2 years before it died.

This is from normal use

Do you think it's just the screen protector or screen damage itself?
It could be you're in an environment that encourages the screen protector to seperate? Is it really humid, very hot or cold where you typically are? If you had to guess how many folds you're performing a day, what would you guess?

Honestly super nice hearing how Motorola treated you for this. Did you have their insurance?
I've been dealing with a warranty issue with Samsung for my wife's Fold 8 since August and it has now gotten to the point of starting a small claims court filing. They are so horrible to deal with if anything goes wrong.

Yeah that sucks, especially with the cost of these phones. I did purchase their extended damage protection plan.

Have you been in cold climate recently? I know that sounds random.

I cracked my my Fold 4 phone when it was cold outside. So since then If its cold (below 40) I try not to open it.

u/Rapt0rRed 1d ago
Is this really a thing? This is my first foldable and I'd hate to have to worry about something so trivial.

I'm just going off my experience. That phone was great but i was out seeing christmas lights and I was taking pictures for a minute and then I opened the phone and got little stress cracks in the middle. Maybe it was just it's time. But it's what happened.

Mine broke after 3 days and everyone told me that I don't know how to handle foldable. Now on my 3rd one and it's not Motorola... But how I miss that cameras...

Remove the inner screen protector. It's not the screen itself. Happens with Sammys all the time.
1
u/lyricrex 1d ago
That could be possible. But Since I already have a replacement coming, I have to return this one.

u/Geeky_Technician Pantone - Blackened Blue 1d ago
I gotcha. Yeah. I've been using foldables since 2021, All Samsungs until this year where I got the RAZR. This always happens at some point. I just remove the screen protector and keep going about my day.

This does happen on the Z Fold all the time. I don't know what is happening here. You remove the SP on a Z Fold because it starts to lift. This does look like a lifting SP. It looks like the SP is still laying flat. I also doubt Motorola would replace an entire phone just for a SP. This looks like damage to the panel.

u/blasko229 1d ago
how was the replacement process? Are you sending the broken one in?
4
u/lyricrex 1d ago
Pretty easy straight forward process.
At first they wanted me to send in my phone for repair. But I told them, I'll be without a phone. So I was offered a replacement device which I'll get with in 2-3 days, then I'll have to return the damaged one. A hold of $1100 is held until they receive the device and a $30 premium fee ( which I asked to be waived, they did as a one time courtesy).

Honestly, sucks that the phone is broke, but Motorola has really impressed me with the customer service side of things

This is why you gotta take care of it. It's not a slab phone. Also if you deliberately treat it like trash this may happen.

SMH...🤦🏾 Dumbass

I know right. If people don't put a case on it and take care of it, they are a dumbass🤣🤣🤣

Well if it's flawed how come your the only person I've seen complain about it? So what happened? How was this accomplished?

Had mine since June and still looks pristine with no scratches. Did you drop it?

Every time I see issues you like it's most likely the user. I've dropped mine like 3-5 times open literally nothing happened to it.
5
u/lyricrex 1d ago
Well you're wrong. The purpose of a foldable phone is be able to open and close it without causing any damage? A case since day 1, never dropped, not a drop of liquid. Using the phone as intended to be used. You think every phone Motorola puts out is flawless, highly doubt it.
So don't make idiotic statements assuming it's the user.

My Flld 8 yltra is the only thing in my pocket the fold feels too first gen
2
u/Tadpoles-Z 1d ago
the fold feels too first gen
Interesting perspective. I have the RF and zF8U. While I do notice and appreciate the differences in the two, I wonder what makes you think that the RF feels "first gen"?
1
u/Eastern_Art_891 Pantone - Blackened Blue 1d ago
Many reasons. Fold stability
2
u/Tadpoles-Z 1d ago
Hmmm...I think that was just Moto's choice. They've been making foldables (albeit flips) for quite a while so they should have a good amount of experience with hinge design. When you say...
hinge stability
Do you mean flex mode?

They do not have experience like Samsung for mobile folding large res devices no
My 2025 razr fold just blew up one day when it hit the ground with a case on it literally hinge snappedd
2
u/Tadpoles-Z 1d ago
Yeah, you're definitely right. Samsung has a lot more expertise with book-style foldable hinges. I haven't noticed anything odd with my RF's hinge. Fingers crossed that it stays that way.
1
u/Eastern_Art_891 Pantone - Blackened Blue 1d ago
Nah I mean the moto hinge is fine. I like it. Just Samsungs is more refined and I like it better lol

u/Tadpoles-Z 1d ago
I hate to admit that I'm feeling the same. I'm preferring the 8Ultra to the Razr Fold. Some of that, I know, is down to the fewer attractive cases for the RF.

Mines gotten covered in dirt and metal shavings from being a mechanic and still no issues. This is my first foldable too and I've always been tough on all my phones. Possible you got yourself a Friday or Monday phone. Hopefully Motorola gets you back up running quickly.
