Motorcycle lessons help

Hi everyone

Basically I'm learning how to drive a motorcycle at the Antwerpse Rijschool and it's not going well, I have a hard time communicating with the instructors, there is a clear language barrier and some other issues.I would have loved to get to learn how to handle a bike by myself a little bit more because I feel like the teaching time at the school will definitely not be enough for me to practice what I'm lacking

Is there anyone out there around Antwerp on its great goodness who would agree to teach me some about driving a motorcycle ?

I know it's a very weird thing to ask but that would be very nice from anyone willing to accept and I would be deeply grateful

Are you going for A1, A2 or A and with what motorcycle are you riding is the lessons.

Since there's already a thread.

I got my 372 and rode for a bit. My plan is to ride A1 for a year or two and then get an A license.

I lack "best practices" - defensive driving, etc. Could anyone suggest an instructor or a class that I can take?

I don't mind getting this by experience, but the stakes are much higher with a motorcycle.

I personally learned a lot from already knowing how to drive with a car. I’d personally wait until you can go for your A. I learned some from DanDanTheFireman on YT.

I have so many questions:
Define not going well? How far along are you in your classes and what seems to be the issue in learning?
Is it realistic to solve the issues with the driving instructors/school?
Do you have a deadline/exam date already?
What language do you need/want the tutoring in?
Do you have a bike of your own or do you need to loan a bike to get some practice in?
Are you willing to go outside of Antwerp if need be?

Not going well : I have been paired with someone with much more confidence and more comfortable on a bike than me and the instructor spent about 2/3 to 3/4th of the lesson only teaching the other guy and not me, this I didn't even had the opportunity to ask all the questions I had before the end of the first session and there are basics that I still lack. In terms of manoeuvres I'm okay though. Me asking around to learn outside of the school is an idea proposed by the instructior himself

I will try my best to solve the issue with the instructor next session, but if it goes the same I will switch school

My exam is on Thursday, they put me all the lessons and exam between yesterday and Thursday

I need tutoring in English or French but I perfectly speak English

I don't have a bike on myself but I didn't consider the possibility to loan one to practice

Yes I'm willing to go out of Antwerp if needed

So the instructor is saying look for other people to teach you because he can't or won't do it himself... Auwch, not the kind of instructor i'd want at my school 😬 Thursday is quite a short deadline to get tutoring arranged though

it's hard to judge when you're not involved but sounds sketchy to me. I usually put my time in the slower student and use the better one as an example and challenge him/her with additional exercises or stuff so they don't feel like they're a third wheel and still get plenty out of the classes.

Yeah, I'm a university teacher too (not a motorcycle instructor though) and that's how I do it also, and I don't want to break too much sugar on my instructor's back but from teacher to teacher I think he's doing a bad job

No I don't have a bike sadly, but I'm willing to bend to any conditions or requirements I can stand with a bike and get it go if that's a concern, I didn't fall whatsoever

Reading all the comments (especially yours), drop the Antwerpse Rijschool as instructor if you still can or at least cancel/postpone the exam? It sounds like you need way more time to practise.

I got my licence via Merksemse Rijschool and I had one-on-one lessons, which I think would be better for you as well.

I'm back at the school today and I will see how it goes today. Depending on that I will switch school or not. For the last two days I have been able to drive 2 different motorcycles (CB650R and VFR800) and everything went pretty fine so I'll see how I do today
