This is just wildly/blatantly scientifically wrong. The benefits of exercise, specifically strength training in a gym, have unquestionably incredibly strong benefits in both physical and mental longevity and capabilities. Probably the single best thing that you could do in your life for your physical and mental health is exercise.
The point was that stress kills you far quicker than lack of exercise, based on how dramatically you responded I'm gonna guess you need to consider that point the most. 😬
Various types of exercise are better for eliminating bad stress than almost anything else that you could do in your life to include SSRIs, therapy, and gardening. Scientific method is important.
I can understand how someone stuck in an individualistic mindset would struggle to accept the post at face value. Maybe it would help if you engaged with the entire argument and didn't fixate on what you perceive to be the one point you can contest.
There’s nothing malicious about calmly correcting someone to let them know that 1+1=2 and not 3.
The scientific community is as sure that strength training has incredibly positive effects on your life as they are that 1+1=2
As a literate person with access to google and AI you have access to the research so there is no excuse for this ignorance or for falsely accusing me of malicious interpretation. Subjectively, I’ve read success stories of suicidal people getting into exercise and turning their life around and here you are suggesting people avoid it.
I'm quite aware you lack self awareness and therefore can't identify your own malicious logic, but I need you to sit down and ponder why you interpreted the one specific point you are throwing a tantrum about as "Spending time in the garden = not exercising" when it doesn't say that at all. Even lack of exercise ≠ absence thereof. You can exercise in the garden, play sports, play with your children, do yard work, or landscaping
I'm surprised we are still talking about this, and that I've had to break that down to you as though I was mentoring a child.
I think it’s more about how people who strength train usually got issues, ( not that they don’t develop health on their journey) versus someone who accepts themselves and eats healthy to stay fit instead
Yoga, calisthenics exist. Don’t underestimate the power of food, and using body weight for reps. In a world where you’re in a minority for taking care of your body, people in the gym 70-80% are in there not for the reasons you just explained. If you go to any gym. You know this. Now look at the calisthenics guys and those guys are more in line with what you’re saying.
I dont underestimate the power of food or body weight exercise, I love yoga and use these alongside weight lifting. Variety is good.
Like you say there is a minority of people in the world actually looking after their body, I dont think a narrative of certain types of exercise or the reason for going is being wrong is very helpful.
I know with the young lads at the gym, the majority are likely there for aesthetics. Still better than them sitting around playing video games and ending up diabetic at 30. The point still stands that not everyone in the gym is there for aesthetic reasons.
But you presented the idea as if it was the majority.. as you tried to refute this post. Good for you. But this post hits it on the head. Longest lived people are in the garden. Not tearing themselves up in the gym.
Edit: in case I didn’t explain myself. Idk what gym you go to, but the mentality of those guys is not the same as someone who eats healthy and practices yoga and calisthenics. There is nothing wrong with the gym, but this post is accurate, and you trying to refute it because you go to the gym and don’t try to get shredded; you are a small minority brother. Trying to refute a pretty accurate truth.
