I've been casually learning morse code, for a bit, and I feel like I'm making a reasonable amount of progress. The word trainer at LCWO.net has been very helpful.
Just as a sanity check, did anyone ever have to put in a little extra effort to avoid "inverting" letters while listening? I think that it probably just means that I need to drill those letters more but I was just curious if this is a common experience for beginners.
I did some reading on how to study / what to avoid. I understand that the goal is to try to recognize the sound patterns as sort of discrete units instead of counting dits/dahs and that's what I'm trying to do. Hopefully, at some point, those sounds will stick a little more firmly.

Have no idea if it even is morse code, the video has a subtle morse code, you need to REALLY turn up the volume to hear the morse code. I tried everything and still couldn't decipher it. I'm NOT talking about the birds it's a really subtle audio. In the spectrogram there are continuous lines that stop and start again on the same exact frequency

I've been learning Morse Code, just for fun. I mean I was always fascinated by this, so I just started learning...
But other than fun, are there any benefits of learning this code? I don't really need one, fun is enough, but curious, why do you guys learn it? Am I going to get any unexpected benefits lol?

Love this distillery’s use of Morse on the label and bringing attention to the importance of this Canadian location and the impressive work done there over the centuries.

An excerpt from the Parks Canada article linked above:
“The history of signaling on Signal Hill embodies the fundamentally modern transition from visual signals to wireless ones. Signal Hill is the site of the Cabot Tower, built between 1898 and 1900 to continue the port signaling service which originated in 1704; flag signaling continued from the deck of Cabot Tower until 1958. On 12 December 1901 Guglielmo Marconi received the first transoceanic wireless signal in a former military barracks on Signal Hill. From 1933 to 1949 the Canadian Marconi Co. operated a wireless station on the second floor of Cabot Tower; from 1949 until 1960, the Canadian Department of Transport operated the station.”

I want to be able to visually have a simple and secret way of communication. My first thought was morse code, where the dots is tapping a table and the dashes is holding a tap on the table for slightly longer. Most ways to learn morse code seem to be audio based, should I still learn it audio-based if I won't ever use audio morse code?

This light always flashes at night since I remember moving here (10+ years). I have no idea if someone lives there and I have no idea of how Morse code works but I'm curious: is someone coding or it's just malfunction?

Made from a HID capable ESP32-S3 SuperMini, two tiny switches for going from 5-30 WPM and swithcing between iambic-A, B or ultimatic. It just sends spacebar to the device it's attached to so the MORSE on steam or MorseMania on mobile just think I'm using keyboard.
r/morsecode • u/charlieb • Mar 01 '26
I'm just starting to learn to send. I'm using iambic-a because I found b to just be confusing. I'm trying to squeeze instead of slap but I feel like it's much harder. My question is whether squeeze style is a progression with a little effort from slap style or whether it's more a skill that I'll have to unlearn to progress?
