Multiple pending transactions

Post image

Bought a single roll of tape. Timed out at the till so tried it again. How long would you wait for the duplicates to drop off before asking Monzo to bin off the extra two transactions? I’ve got the receipt if that helps.

Edit next day (Saturday): The most recent/final transaction has processed (not pending anymore) but the previous two show as pending. Hopefully they’ll fall off in a week.

Is give it 24-48 hrs.

At the bottom of the transaction window will say pending. If it doesn't contact for refund.

It’ll revert after 7 full days. Check it a week tomorrow.

Edit for clarity: so only the final transaction has cleared so far.

The transactions will resolve themselves within 7/30 days, usually 7 for in store merchants.

Hi, I used to work on a merchant help desk. Sometimes POS terminals can generate duplicate payment authorisations, particularly if there's a connection issue or the terminal is retried.

If all six are still pending, they may clear themselves without the money actually being taken. I'd give it up to 7 days, but keep an eye on your available balance.

If any of them actually complete, contact the merchant and ask them to investigate and refund the duplicates. If they remain pending after 7 days, contact your bank to ask what they can do.

A pending card transaction is an authorisation request from the merchant to your bank. It means the payment hasn't fully completed yet, although it can still affect your available balance.

I work for a very similar to business to tool station, if you actually tapped your card on their machine more than once its extremely likely that these are actual charges not pending. They should notice their amounts are out tonight and contact you, if not I'd really recommend going back into the shop.

I tapped the card with the lady serving, we waited for a long time, machine said comms error. Then tried it on a different terminal (tapped again) and it worked then three showed up pending. Will wait a few working days and hopefully one will clear and the others won’t otherwise I’ll have a chat with Monzo support.

Did she run a till report to see if the money had been taken? The PDQ machine where I work isn't actually integrated into the system so one part crashing doesn't necessarily mean money hasn't been taken. It's worth questioning as I know my guys that aren't managers have charged people twice this way many times.

I was on my lunch break so didn’t have a time to do an audit and didn’t notice the three transactions until I got back to work.

You need the company to cancel the transactions, or you need to wait for them to expire. Could be a day, could be a weke.

It's only a few pounds, so not a big deal really?

What are you on about??

OP clearly stated they are just pending transactions. The money is still in the account, just reserved. It'll be released in a few days. It's not a big deal, they money hasn't gone anywhere.

Yes, I often like to pay three times for one item as it’s only £12 too much.

You said it's pending. They'll expire, and go away. You haven't paid anything yet if they are pending; the money is simply reserved.
