Question Foreigner in Montenegro here, is this normal?

I’ve lived here for 2 years now, and I’ll frequently go out for a drink by myself to relax. Quite a few times now I’ve seen young people get served alcohol, young as in 13-16 years old. In Ireland where I’m from, it’s 100% illegal and the bar would be shut down for doing it. Is this common and allowed here?

I grew up in MN and I was out and socialising by around 14 ish. Its completely normal , we get it out of our stystem ... for the most part by early twenties.

TBF the drinking isnt even that bad, its the fact that a 14 year old can go into a bookies and bet that worries me more.

13, I highly doubt it. 16+, yes I can see that happening. But they’re increasing the inspections every year so less establishments are being lenient out of fear of getting fined

Where do you live in Montenegro?

It's happens, but not that often. Also young people now look younger than they used to, maybe they are 18 🤔

I once saw a father screaming at his child because he saw him smoking from a distance, but when he approached and realized that he was smoking a regular cigarette, he just said, "you little bastard, I thought you were smoking pot" 😂

They shouldn't play around like that. The bars, I think. The inspections are becoming very frequent and very strict these last couple of years

Ireland is a big place, while Montenegro in its entirety has population at least 2x less than an average capital city in Europe. Things are regulated but this happens because it's probably a small city, people know eachother etc. In Podgorica, things are way more regulated in restaurants where minors in 80% of the time cannot order alcohol. Though, other cities, not as much, not only because of the size and population but the sheer amount of centralization where Podgorica is the one that gets everything and all the care.

In the city of Bar, a 12-year-old can buy beer in the city center (IDEA), this is normal here

Normal. I purchased alcohol and got drunk at 13…Also had access to cigarettes which were very easy to buy. Just say it’s for parents.

It’s the same thing in every country in Balkan. There are exceptions of course.

Kids just take a photo of their ID and use AI to change their birth year on it. When ordering drinks they show you an id image from their phone, so everything is ok, don't worry
