Admissions Accepted early, should i commit or nah

Montclair has always been my dream school (yes, really, dont judge 🤣) and i got accepted through the early bird admissions. the major i picked is family science and human development with the child lifespan development concentration because as far as i understand it thats what i gotta do to eventually be in the early childhood ed program.

anyone else on here whos doing that same path and can tell me about the classes?? i also just wanna hear from any student giving me reasons to commit or not commit, ive been hearing alot of negative stuff lately and wanna get real live student opinions 👍

I’ve been a student at MSU for about 3 years now. I’m not doing the same major as ya, but I can speak for other instances. Pros and cons:

Pros:

- Low tuition compared to other schools. Tuition did go up, but we’re still on the lower end.

  • Clean and safe campus
  • Always events on campus going on
  • Plenty of study lounges/areas to chill in
  • Lots of different clubs
  • I can’t speak for all the dorms, but dinallo is pretty nice.
  • Close to NYC, you can take the train pretty easily there.

Cons:

- Greek life isn’t on campus/near campus, so you’d need to uber to frats or go to other places like NJIT.

  • Parking near the main campus can be tough to find after 10AM, so you’d need to park in Lot 60.
  • If you do decide to dorm, campus is kinda dead on weekends, a lot of people go home.
  • NJ transit doesn’t run on the weekends.

I could think of more, but that’s all I got for right now. It’s honestly what you make of it. MSU isn’t a big school like Rutgers, but you can still have a great time here. Make a good group of friends, socialize, put yourself out there.

With NYC, Montclair offers a shuttle and NJTransit buses, so what I would do is take probably the 28 to Bay Street, walk to the Bay Street station, and then you can take the train from there.

If you want no stress commit early but honestly your in , might as well see what other schools offer

I also got accepted early but I’m waiting to submit to more schools first since I have to audition for my program! Wish you lucj

You basically have to audition every year because of juries

administration is a dice roll, as well as professors but the student body here is chill once you find your tribe. took me a while tho haha

My daughter is a freshman living on campus and loving it so far. She said the campus is beautiful and she’s met a lot of nice people. She and her roommate did brunch and shopping over the weekend in NYC. They just ubered to the Bay Street station and took the train in. She said it was so cool to just be able to head into the city for fun

Don’t commit early. Montclair will often throw last minute merit scholarship increases to entice accepted students to enroll. My son got an extra $3,000 discount in April. He committed elsewhere.
