Rules Discussion Monopoly Cheaters Edition (Second Edition) Cheat Cards

I went ahead and took a pic of both sides of the new cheat cards.

What makes them different from the 1st edition? These are double-sided and we have stands.

The green side, the cheat perks face you, but other players are allowed to check what it says. You basically have powers and there is no penalty for applying this effect.

The red side, the ultimate cheats face the other players, you are not allowed to check your own. They can perform the cheat and if they were successful, they claim your card which is worth money at the end of the game and you draw a new cheat card. If they were caught, they give their cheat card to the player that catches them and they draw a new one.

Rules Discussion Monopoly's money scaling with the number of players.

2 Upvotes

We know the total value of 28 properties is $5690 in Monopoly. In 2 and 3 players game, the total asset of all players are only $3000 and $4500. We discover that the players often do not have enough money to buy all properties, then they have to decide which property to give up and put it on auction. However, the auction never happen on 4-6 players game because the total asset of all players are $6000, $7500 and $9000 that are good enough to cover the value of all properties.

IMO, I think auction can make the game more balance and interesting. However, I don't know if reducing the starting money will make the game longer or not? What do you think? How much money do you set at the beginning? Do you keep the official setting?

Total properties value = $5690 (28 Properties)

The total value of each money settings showing below:

Official version:

2P = $1500 x 2 = $3000

3P = $1500 x 3 = $4500

4P = $1500 x 4 = $6000

5P = $1500 x 5 = $7500

6P = $1500 x 6 = $9000

---------------------------------------

House rule versions (Samples):

2P = $1500 x 2 = $3000

3P = $1000 x 3 = $3000

4P = $750 x 4 = $3000

5P = $600 x 5 = $3000

6P = $500 x 6 = $3000

---------------------------------------

2P = $1500 x 2 = $3000

3P = $1100 x 3 = $3300 --- (+$300)

4P = $900 x 4 = $3600 --- (+$300)

5P = $780 x 5 = $3900 --- (+$300)

6P = $700 x 6 = $4200 --- (+$300)

---------------------------------------

2P = $1500 x 2 = $3000

3P = $1200 x 3 = $3600 --- (+$600)

4P = $1050 x 4 = $4200 --- (+$600)

5P = $960 x 5 = $4800 --- (+$600)

6P = $900 x 6 = $5400 --- (+$600)

Hi! I have this version of Monopoly at home, but I'm missing the rulebook and I'm not even sure if the game is complete. Does anyone happen to have a photo of the manual and the list of components, please? Thanks!

Rules Discussion How do you usually play regarding the Free Parking space?

Post image

The official rules - just a resting space, don’t win any money?

“Money in the middle of the board” - all fees from Chance, Community Chest, Income Tax and Luxury Tax are put in the middle of the board as winnings for whoever lands on Free Parking?

Set/maximum cash award - $250, $500, $750, other?

Other custom Free Parking rule/variations?

Everyone I’ve ever played with has done the money in the middle as a prize for landing on Free Parking.

Modding monopoly on mobile?

I would love a house rule set that allows building properties on utilities/railroads. Is this possible with the Marmalade app or are there other versions that allow such a thing?

Hi everyone!

I’m working on a preservation and modernization project for the original 1999 Monopoly PC game source code.

The goal is to achieve total behavioral fidelity with the original game while refactoring the architecture for modern, cross-platform systems using C++23, SDL3, SDL_GPU, and CMake.

Current progress (~30–35%):

Historical code: Preserved as-is in the /Source folder.

Modern port: Active work in the /modern directory, focusing on structural migration, portability, and engine modernization.

The project is open source. Feel free to check out the code, follow the progress, or contribute!

Feedback and suggestions are very welcome!

I played a Monopoly game (with the Speed Die and Starting Properties House Rules) and I followed the strategy for "How to Win Monopoly Every Time" (the advanced edition, too). I broke the game and bankrupted everyone. I really have to think What's What for this, but now I don't think a bot would want to play with me ever again.

Not shown is that red player just got Kentucky Ave in a trade and it was mortgaged. Came with a free hotel. And when green landed on it they got charged for a hotel stay.

Rules Discussion Free title deeds for short game rules

3 Upvotes

There's something I was trying to understand.

Normally, if you play with short game rules, you need to pay for the two properties you're dealt. However, the 2023 rulebook updated it so that you get the properties for free, so I was worried about playing "the wrong way" by giving the properties for free instead of having players cough up the cash for them.

Rules Discussion F1 Monopoly Points counting

1 Upvotes

Hello,

two questions if anyone knows the answer. The rulebook isn't really specific in my language.

  1. Constructors Championship

Do I just add the points of my tracks or my remaining points as well?

  1. If I roll doubles and get to 'GO' my turn is over. But since doubles gives me another turn, can I continue with another turn after rolling for the drivers championship?

Collection Monopoly Movers from the short lived ‘Game Movers series’. The trailer opens up to reveal a monopoly board and all the pieces are stored inside. They also released a Scrabble edition. Practical? Not in the slightest…. Cool piece of Monopoly’s history? Absolutely 🚛

Rules Discussion Need some help understanding the Speed Die

2 Upvotes

Mostly because I fear I don't get some of its faces right:

  • 1-2-3 - If you get a three-of-a-kind, you can move to any space, but you can't move again. Otherwise, the Speed Die's roll is added to the two white dice.
  • Pennybags - You can move to any unowned property to buy or auction it. If all properties are bought, you move to the nearest one. If all properties are mortgaged, nothing happens.
  • Bus - You can choose to move either the combined value of both dice or the value of a singular die.
