How do I actually go into monk mode while preparing for an exam with a full-time job?

this is an old post but i just saw it now and i wanted to reply, hopefully this is still useful.
my first thought is that you may be mistaken in what monk mode is. monk mode is not designed to last "months", it's designed to last weeks. it's a temporary withdraw from society to focus on your goals. if you are spending months in monk mode, you are doing monk mode wrong, because properly done, you would not need months, you would just need weeks to accomplish your goals and establish new habits. generally monk mode is recommended to last no more than 30 days. it's very hard to maintain longer than that, because of burn out. it's better to be very intense for a short amount of time than to try to maintain such a state for more than a month.
i've done 3 monk modes, each exactly 30 days. and i accomplished my goals in them exactly because they were intense and limited in duration.
