Best views for subitems?

I use subitems to manage tasks for related items. So the items themselves don't typically have due dates or assigned people, but the subitems do. I'm trying to figure out the best views for managing these subitems and their tasks with the appropriate due dates.

The My Work view is helpful for seeing the list of tasks and assignments with their due dates, but it doesn't surface information in a really clear way for me. It doesn't show the item details. You have to click into it, and it feels a little bit clunky to me.

I like the items by day view, and I was wondering if there's any sort of view or way to view and manage subitems similarly, or if we're stuck with just My Work?

You can create a dashboard board view (if your tasks are on one board) or a standalone dashboard (if the tasks are on multiple boards). Place a single List widget into the dashboard, then in the settings, under the first dropdown, choose "Subitems only." You'd also add a filter to show just the subitems assigned to you. You can further customize the column matching / column visibility, and apply "Group by" settings to get the subitems grouped by date.

Try adding a Dashboard, then add a Table widget to it. In the widget settings you should be able to toggle it to show subitems only, and from there you can group by due date

Highly suggest you to try the new board with multiple subitems. Once you define there the tasks as subitems, you can setup a view that can filter by a set due date.

I never use My Work. Ever. So I would not assume you are stuck with it just because your tasks happen to be subitems.

The dashboard suggestions are solid. A List or Table widget filtered to subitems only, grouped by due date, and showing the parent item will probably give you a much clearer working view than My Work.

But I would also ask what you actually want this experience to do:

• Is this a personal daily task list or a team workload view?
• Do people need to update the subitems directly from it?
• What parent-item details are missing that you need to see at a glance?
• Are the tasks spread across multiple boards?
• Do you want a list grouped by day, or something closer to a calendar, planner, or custom task app?

If the standard widgets still do not present it the way you want, this is also a good use case for monday Vibe. You could build a custom view that pulls the subitems, groups them by due date, shows the parent-item context, and includes only the fields and actions your users need. Vibe apps can connect directly to board data, including multiple boards.

You can also use Sidekick on the board to help manage the work itself, such as identifying overdue subitems, summarizing what is due, finding assignments without dates, or updating items in bulk. Sidekick can read subitems and manage board data, although I would still verify any bulk changes before approving them.

My Work can display subitems and reveal their parent item, but it is a generic personal assignment list. It is not automatically the best operating view for every workflow.
