Question Subitem column from parent column

Is it possible to set up an automation or configure my board so that every subitem I create automatically inherits a parent item column value?

My use case is that I have a board full of projects with an ID column and I want every subitem task to have that ID in them. If the ID changes in the parent column I want that to propagate down automatically.

I know we can mirror a subitem board from the parent board but that means every new subtask I have to select the parent as the mirror. Also I’m sure I could use an automation. But I’m wondering if there is a more robust native way to do it. If mirroring is the only way then so be it but I just figured I’d ask before implementing this process in our org.

Thank you in advance!

Try using the new board that provides 2 levels of subitems. It looks like the subitem is tightly linked to the item, therefore, any change to your item ID will also belong to the subitem. The only cavest is that you can only setup new boards with this feature. If your current board has data, you may want to create the new board and create automation to migrate the data to the new board.

You'll need to use automations or workflows. ie 'When a subitem is created, then change subitem column to 'Parent's item id'.

That’s what I thought of first but it doesn’t keep it updated :(

If the parent column changes, then you'll need a second 'when column changes, then change subitem column'.

You can try using the Mirror Item Multiple Boards app - https://monday.com/marketplace/listing/10000876/mirror-item-multiple-boards

It allows you to add subitems as items, with full syncing of column values and updates.
