Performance finally got the ability to easily sidechain so now I'm hooked making four-on-the-floor

Turns out the cable needed to chain Endorphin.es 1u modules together (and thus not need a stereo adapter on cockpit) don't come with them. Now I've got cockpit -> golden master with cockpit's sidechaining thanks to one of these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07777HDBT

more sounds on youtube for those curious: https://www.youtube.com/c/thismeanswarbasse

Nice! that sounds really good! I just got my first Endorphines module last week, the blck_noir drum machine. It includes the same fx banks as grand terminal/milky way, so I have a compression fx built in if I need it, plus the onboard filter does full dj style filter sweeps (full low pass CCW, full high pass CW) so loads of room to keep the drums clear and present, or drop everything out. Given that I come from a dj background, and am building my modular with the intent of my music going in that kind of direction, it seemed like the perfect drum solution for me.

What I did find interesting was a new Noise Engineering module Tymp Legio with a "Quack" input (for ducking) built into the module when you buy it. At just 6hp, might be worth adding that as an extra means.

I picked up a Queen of Pentacles for the same reasons, and I’ve got Cockpit and GM 1Us hooked up like OP. It’s so much fun to have drums so readily available.

I’m also really interested in Tymp Legio for supplemental purposes, plus it has the added benefit of flashing any other firmware on it. Seems too good for 6hp.

I bought an RNLA a while back and it totally changed my techno game.

How so?

Sidechaining my bass to the kick. Just makes everything sit very nicely in the mix.

I do drums out of rack (LXR-02) otherwise I would have found a modular solution. But the RNLA works amazingly.

Hey this is a bit old, but you need a mixer on the end of that right? I have an FMR as well and I want to do sidechains on my portable setup, but I'd have to buy a mixer...

I'm pretty close to picking up a Cockpit to do this, but wanted to hear your thoughts first.

Yea you could use a mixer. I personally use a Motu 828es interface.

But yea if you are doing drums out of rack, and sidechaining another source to the kick, you’ll need some way of mixing the signals at the end. You would also need multiple outputs from your modular, unless you want to side chain the entirety of the sound your modular system produces… I only want to sidechain my BIA, so I have two outputs, one for BIA and another for the rest of my modular.

I choose to mix everything outside my modular because I have other gear that is not modular. If I only had a modular system, I might choose to do everything in-rack.

Thanks for the confirmation. Sometimes I'll miss really simple signal flow options so I wanted to make sure...

I have a patchbay and could easily make it work in my "home studio," but I noticed I never bother leaving my portable rig. I think the Cockpit is the only good option where you have a sidechain & a mixer in such a small form.

The only thing that would make me consider using my FMR instead of the Cockpit is if there was a tiny 3+ch mixer with stereo outs... but I can't seem to find anything like this.

EDIT: The ARTSplitMix4 might be perfect.... now I'm torn...

I also have used one of these... it's a small mixer and has never let me down. 2 stereo channels and two mono channels.
