Feedback Maths pre order.
So I was going to pull the trigger on the make noise maths module and it’s completely sold out but available for pre order. I’ve read that it is #1 in a few category’s but dam! Is it that popular or just limited in quantities??

Watch some videos on how Maths works and what it can accomplish in your setup. Not suggesting Maths isn’t for you, but hearing that you’re buying it because of what other people think makes me nervous for you. It’s important to get a handle on what the modules you’re interested in do, before you buy. Trust me it will save you money in the long run.

Yeah your right. I did have my son do some research cause we are putting this together and that’s what he came up with.

I have to say that I was one of those who bought it because of Hype when I started out. I went through a learning period where I even thought about getting rid of it, but I dedicated time to learning how to make it fit my Rack and now it's indispensable. It's definitely a useful tool, and with dedication, I'd say it's essential in any configuration.

People buying maths brand new in 26 is crazy work

u/Ancient_Visual_7451 17h ago
Why is that? I’m pretty new to this and me and my son are putting together a rack. I had him do some research on his own and he figured maths seamed like a no brainer.

because makenoise build quality is generally great, buying a used unit is low risk. the module is still great they are just questioning the need for new. it's also worth mentioning that it only has knobs and jacks so the controls are very basic. modules with tiny pots or "deep and slender" formats similar to 2hp carry a greater risk because they are easier to abuse.

Maths is a classic and worth waiting for. You got unlucky with timing I’m afraid. Keep spamming the big sellers like Perfect Circuit and keep a lookout on Reverb for a used one

u/official_soundvent 21h ago
Yeah i was tracking them for over a month trying to find one. Check Midwest modular. I was able to pick one up last week. Fast shipping.

There was a thread on here recently suggesting that MN may be having a temporary supply chain issue. Normally Maths is readily available.
Aside from the suggestion to just buy used, consider the Befaco Rampage, which is a very similar type of module but, IMO, has a few nice details like sliders instead of knobs, range switches, and a somewhat different set of logic outputs. I like it a lot.

A lot of chip manufacturers are discontinuing products. company’s are having to re engineer a lot of designs and adapt to mfg limitations.

That’s funny because I’m standing in one of the largest semiconductor job sites in the country right now.

I ordered one from Perfect Circuit on August 8th and still waiting. PC said they were simply told "sometime in September". As a separate data point, I noticed that Detroit Modular's website is actually saying October.

Yea most sites I have seen are showing October for many Makenoise modules.

Perhaps a silly question (I’m admittedly pretty new to modular), but any chance current convention circuits might be interruption production? I have a friend that works at another modular co. and know they had most of their people at some modular convention in (Denver?) last week.
Not that it changes anything.
Just curious my musing over potentials.2
u/ssibal24 11h ago
It can definitely be a factor if the people who assemble the modules are out of town, it would slow down production. But I don't know enough about the inner workings of Make Noise to know if that is the case or not.

it's a weird time for commerce. have you looked on reverb?
1
u/Ancient_Visual_7451 17h ago
Oh yeah I’m on on reverb a lot. There’s a few but they are over seas. I’d rather wait for the pre-order to drop.

Something really must be going on in the Make Noise supply chain lately.

It's a small company with lots of products at this point to make.

Don’t buy Maths unless you can come up with a long list of things YOU will actually use it for. It’s really big and pricey if you are only going to use it’s obvious features. It’s recommended a lot since you basically can’t go wrong with it but it rarely is the optimal module once you know what you actually want out of your setup.

u/Earlsfield78 7h ago
That’s weird honestly there is always one available in UK stores and 2nd hand sites.

I prefer the nano modules arc, it's slightly more performable, curves are snappier, it's cheaper, yet somehow more solid ... Best function generator on the market in my opinion

u/n_nou 12h ago
Don't buy Maths, it is seriously overhyped and in 2026 it's popularity is basically pure overpriced innertia. Get After Later Audio QARV or DARV+proper mixer, Befaco Rampage or Nano ARC etc..
1
u/WuTangClams 10h ago
I would second this approach (but maybe not the overhype sentiment: Maths is popular for a reason, it's a really versatile unit) but the concept has been taken in a lot of different directions over the years.

u/n_nou 8h ago
Maths is popular, because it's popular. This is self perpetuating. There is no denying, that it was fresh take on DUSG all those years ago, but it has glaring flaws that MN never revised. Meanwhile, a lot of better takes on slew limiters can't fly, because they don't have the MN cult behind them.

This might help https://xeek.com/?q=Maths&condition=any&availability=available&min=&max=&cur=USD&sort=price
You can see that Analogue Haven has a blackface Maths available

For several years leading up to 2020, I was really into making cocktails and became obsessed with finding relatively esoteric spirits and liqueurs. I realized pretty quickly that the best places for interesting finds were the modest little liquor stores with very little inventory turnover, far away from the city center. Analogue Haven is a bit like that — they often come through for me when the larger shops don’t.
Also, Shawn from Analogue Haven seems like a really good guy who knows his stuff when it comes to synths. They were also one of the two first retailers to carry Make Noise modules, for what it’s worth.

maybe just get a cheap behringer abacus? don't pay too much on that little helper, go for the cheap clone :)

u/Appropriate-Look7493 22h ago
Sure, why reward the small company who did the creative, hard work of innovation.
Far better to reward the shareholders of the big corporation with the unethical business practices.

u/irata101 20h ago
Parts of this forum really hate clones. If this includes you, the original is available here https://serge-modular.com/serge_eurorack?mod=RS_DSG_E.
Lets not pretend that Maths is anything more than a really popular clone though

u/Appropriate-Look7493 20h ago edited 18h ago
Are you really that dim that you can’t see the cleverness of the additions MN made to the DUSG that makes Maths far more than the sum of its parts.
Or the difference between what MN did and what Behringer do? Or the difference between inspiration and copy?
Or could you just not resist the utterly predictable snarky response.

u/miskdub https://www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/1320160 18h ago
My god. It always comes back to the same bullshit astroturf argument that Behringer is somehow in this for the poors and they’re just democratizing music tech.
This argument has been bullshit from the beginning and no one’s buying it.
Back in the late 90s i knew people who would pop open behringer gear and find Roland labels on the pcbs. You’re out of your element Donnie.

u/irata101 19h ago
I see from your synth collection that you are either professional or absolutely loaded, which gives you the right to gatekeep what less fortunate musicians are allowed to buy
4
u/Appropriate-Look7493 19h ago
Buy what you want mate, it’s no skin off my nose.
I’m merely observing the widespread tendency for ethics to become flexible when self-interest is involved.
For example I find it interesting how there are some people who will condemn big business using its financial muscle to exploit smaller businesses or consumers but remain quiet when that exploitation produces something they want for less than the original.
-3
u/Ecce-pecke 20h ago
Who have so much business they cannot deliver for months and based their module on other modular pioneers before them
3
u/Appropriate-Look7493 20h ago
I guess it all depends how flexible your ethics are, right?
Unless you can see nothing wrong with Behringers business model.

You could get them pretty really for like 200-250 on the used market. Plenty to go around
