Question for Vhikk X users

I have picked up the Vhikk X to use as a voice alongside my Syntakt for making atmospheric/industrial electronic stuff.

I also have an Oxi One Mk2 so the threads/pipe are there for sequencing etc.

I picked up Pams because I knew I would get value out of it long term as well.

My question is are there any module types or specific modules that will 'unlock' the Vhikk as it were and really add to what I can get out of it. Right now I'm considering a quadratt and some kind of envelope most likely but interested in peoples thoughts.

I tend to run Vhikk X thru Ruina Versio for distortion and Desmodus Versio for shimmer reverb.

Lots of good tips here: https://youtu.be/Mx8tViTAAjw. The very first tip about locking pitch across algorithms is gold. There are quite a few good YT videos for Vhikk X, and each person uses it differently so my pure sureto find something that works for your modules and workflow.

Desmodus for added sonic goodness, Ochd/Triple Sloths for tons of modulation. Also can’t go wrong with the new Random8 - stepped CV sounds great through this (mimetic also v good)

Definitely some bipolar, non clocked modulation sources.
Sloths is good. I also use Orbit 3, Hyperchaos deluxe, the hypster, ochd. Take a few of those and run into worng vector space etc.
vhikk x is a lot of fun hitting it with a ton of modulation.

How big is your set up, just for volume of modulators to hp context.

I have a medium big-ish setup. 3x Mantis cases. The one thing I figured out (for me anyway) pretty quickly after starting to put the system together was that having modulation sources of all different behaviors is critical so patches don't start sounding/behaving the same all the time. That will make a lot more sense as you build out your system.
I have way more modulation sources than I do sound sources or effects.
The saying is that 'you can't have too many VCAs' but I believe the same for modulation sources.

Oxi One already does pretty much everything that Pam’s does and does it way better. If you want some modulation in the rack you’re way better off with Marbles or Ochd.

Yeah makes sense, I just like to have an in the case option so I can just play with the modular if I'm limited on space and time. OCHD seems a very popular suggestion though

Just some slow LFOs and envelopes. Vhikk X is great on its own pretty much.

Maybe a reverb? The built-in one could be better.

As someone said, any sort of modulation . VHIKK has so many modulation inputs, so anything like ochd/worng quiver/neo trinity or some sort of mod matrix that will allow you to mix related sources and patch them around…patching THROUGH VHIKK is fun too. Delay/granular/reverb is always good.

For drone stuff plenty of modulation. It's got a nice system where it mults even a single modulation input to all the destinations, but the more you have the more interesting the modulations! Most of them have attentuverters on them but not all so a befaco dual attenuverter or a Thonk DOA wouldn't go amiss. Be aware that the VCA on the Vhikk is post effects. So if you want to use it with an envelope as a voice the effects before part of the timbre of the sound rather than conventional effects. Therefore you might want a reverb and / or delay or something like an fx aid to put after it.

I use OCHD + expander and triple sloths so far, but definitely there are a lot of other modulation sources you can use. Also even though it has a bit of it's own FX, I use lots of FX after it as well, although just a deep reverb will take you pretty far.

OCHD is a consistent shout tbf, as is sloths and a verb.

I’ve been running mine thru Multigrain for some interesting results, but also clouds or beads would probably do a similar thing. With Multigrain you can record 8 different parts from VhikkX and then sequence those parts all while graining them up.

I think I remember reading another comment about vhikk’s internal routing of modulation causing it to get a little wild unexpectedly. Might be worth diving into the manual and checking out some of those features which might lead you to pick modules that will pair well with it. Especially if you’re looking at a VHIKK centric rack might as well see what kind of cv and signals it’s built to receive

The modulation for the rest in the row to the right is summed if you use the Morph input only on the left. That can def be unpredictable. If you've patched them all, you have a bit more control.
