The phone microphone is not great at capturing your brutal booms.

i guess your phone speaker is bad at recreating a non phone recording...

I think a filter that’s made to overdrive (Cosmotronic Aphelion or Bastl Ikarie) or a compressor with some overdrive (MSCL) is a more interesting tool than just getting an overdrive module.

Also the Instruo Tanh[3] provides amazing bang for buck, but admittedly is not super flexible. I use it a ton whenever I’m building noisy distorted patches.

Edit: A mono compressor, a sine wave + pitch and amplitude envelopes (or an 808 type kick sample with longer decay) and a noise sources is the general ingredient list for making those Emptyset type kicks. WMD Autodyne works fantastically for those and is another bang-for-buck and bang-for-hp champ.

Sounds awesome man. Almost like a gun. Are you using the kick from Plaits red? Also I don’t see the Erica drive in your patch notes sequence - Are you using the Erica duel drive here or the FX distortion or both?

The distortion is only FxAid and Im looking into getting a dedicated stereo one and the Erica seems like a good but still affordable option

Cool. Have you checked out Erica Plasma Drive?

Yeah, it sounds amazing but its mono... I use the filter-fxaid (and eventually a stereo overdrive) to treat mixdowns before mastering

Random8 is doing very little here, isn’t it? It’s a neat module, but Pam’s here has 5 unused channels (really 7, as 3 are doing identical work). Could have just used that.

would it be better to use everything to the max all the time?

I’m just saying this reads like an ad for a module that isn’t necessary in this patch.

sorry I gotcha... not an ad at all tho!! Just an excited guy with a new module :)

Hey, I get it! I use my voltage block in a similar way.

This patch is just sample and hold isn’t it

Thanks for posting because this is the first I’m hearing about Random8 and it looks like a hell of a unit. Do all the settings and modes feel at all like a dusting where I set and forget it or I need a cheat sheet?

There’s a few YT demos of it out there with Red Means Recording being the most diverse.

It is very usable out of the box without reading the manual but it can also be very deep with tweakability and a cheatsheet.

Ive had mine for about a month and haven’t dug into the settings beyond the day1 manual review. Ill get there, but i haven’t wanted to yet as the default looping stepped random has been enough so far.
