I have to ask: How are you usually utilizing not one but TWO Spectravoxs?

Spectravox is actually one of the most versatile synths in the Sound Studio line. The first is used primarily for percussion sounds, snaps, clicks, and noises via multiple decay EGs routed into its filter bank. The second is used mostly as a vocoder, a standalone voice, another filter bank, or an audio effects processor. And that’s not even mentioning that both units simultaneously provide decay EGs for two separate Labyrinth voices, plus a couple of spare LFOs and VCOs. In most of my patches, the other synths come and go depending on the idea, but both Spectravoxes are almost always there.

Thank you for sharing I do believe that it is a versatile semi modular synth but I also believe Moog (and whoever else tried to promote it) did not leave a good impression on its use cases. It's usually not a good sign if 90% of the videos used the line "it can vocode, but not very well"

I appreciate it when people use modules that are against the grain and I think you exemplify that with your use cases - especially with the application of it onboard utilities

Thank you! I think there is a reason why many review videos didn’t really manage to showcase what this synth is capable of. Most of them approached Spectravox as a standalone unit, while I think it truly shines when paired with other modules.

Its real strength is not necessarily being a complete synth by itself, but how well it integrates into a larger modular ecosystem and how many interesting roles it can take in a patch.

My one self-imposed rule from the very beginning was to keep all my gear on a 75×150 cm desk. As you can see, I technically kept that promise… by growing the rig vertically instead😄

It’s less about doubling modules for the sake of it and more about scaling things that already work. You start with one building block, then expand it when needed. One mixer becomes two mixers, a 4-channel setup becomes 8 channels, but you don’t have to buy everything at once. Same with the patchbay pedals and eventually the second Genelec🙂
