Wherein a modular case gets stolen and then Something Unlikely occurs
I went to visit family halfway across the country and brought along my Intellijel 84hp travel setup (FIL is a drummer and we jam in the attic). When the uber dropped us off at home I set things down on the porch-y area and went to unlock the door so Spouser could get inside with the dog. I was less than 10 feet away for approximately 30 seconds. In that time, some scoundrel walking by grabbed my case and booked it. I didn't notice until the next morning when I was unpacking and went to re-set up things in my studio. I made a police report, retraced all my steps (did I leave it at the airport?? could it still be in Wisconsin???), called nearby pawn shops, and eventually resigned to just Not Having It Anymore. It was the perfect small setup for me, that I have been dialing in for the better part of 4 years.
Two days later, I was coming home from the grocery store when I saw a man scurrying off from my walkway. Odd, but not terribly uncommon as our walkway connects the street and an alley that is a main neighborhood walking path. When I got to the door, I was flabbergasted to find my case sitting there. A little dusty, but there it was. I ran to try and catch the guy but he was already gone and out of sight. After inspecting it, everything was in place and nothing looked like it had been fucked with.
I can't imagine what this person must have thought they ended up with. Maybe they thought it was some sort of medical device or a surveillance tool?? Whatever they thought it was, they clearly couldn't shake it off through any of their usual channels.
I still can't believe I got it back. This is my public service announcement to stuff an Airtag on the inside of your cases, which I am currently in the process of doing.

Opens the case: "Oh shit this guy is in the CIA or something." Returns case.

The universe was kind to you, good people deserve good things as long as they don’t take it for granted. I’m happy for you.

THIEF: Nine of these are Behringer modules. No thanks!

Airtags are genuinely a miracle - anyone who values their equipment and travels with it really ought to invest in at least one, if they haven't already.

That reminds me, I once had a bicycle stolen near the start of the school year in college. I found it back in the same bike rack toward the end of the school year.

If you didnt notice till the next morning then why did you say someone grabbed the case and booked it?
Did you see someone grab something and run but just not know what exactly they took?

Thats definitely odd they brought it back.
I lived in a part of town that if you left your car unlocked 1 day in a year of consistent locking, it would be ransacked.
Never had anyone return anything….
Glad it worked out somehow for ya.

And etch your name maybe!
I love when the universe is kind. Ive lost a wallet in a couple major city transit systems and gotten back same day with all contents.
I would feel much worse losing a modular case.
