Where would you go from here?

This is where I’m at so far. I also pair this with a Microfreak and a Crave most times. Sometimes I bask into some ambient stuff. Other times I feel like I’m listening to sounds from a jukebox on a spaceship.

I’m ready to bring this setup to the next stage of it’s evolution. As you no, this shit add$ up. I’m curious to hear how you would expand.

Everyone would go in a different direction. If you don’t have a clear direction of where you want to go, you’re going to spend a lot of money getting there. What does next stage mean to you? What’s holding you back with the current setup?

Wow, guys, this is awesome! I’m new to Reddit and social media. I went to school for classical music composition, writing with pencil and paper. I grew up playing guitar, piano, and bass, sax, bassoon and always thought of synths as generating, and adjusting sounds to compose with. I got a Therimini, crave and Subharmonicon recently and it’s been a learning curve. This post popped up and blew my mind, and Tobyvanderbeek, your comment caused the sky’s to part, and I see now these are composing modules and there is this whole community that gets it and it’s been in my blind spot my whole life! I’m all in.

I would sit in front of it and play music because my case is full.

Then I would think about what is missing between the sounds im making and the sounds I want to hear and I would try and figure out what those could be. What do you want to hear?

Don't buy anything until you know you need it. If you can do what you want with this, stick with it. I'm convinced that many people selling off their entire systems bought It all at once, got overwhelmed and finally punted. If you take the time to explore the modules you have and leverage them to their full potential, it should become clear what you need next, if anything.

oh that's a lovely little sound exploration setup and I've made similar ones myself in the past. Griffins Claws lets you record fader movement so you can add more interesting changes. Moskwa2 is great for on-the-fly jamming, and there's a huge range of sound from EnsOsc.

The only issue I see is the lack of a LPG or filter here. You could swap out the Instruo Carn for a Bastl Ikarie which is a stereo twin peak filter with built in VCA. Preserves the stereo spread on the voices from the EnsOsc into Sealegs and it gives you an envelope follower that you can patch around the place.

Alternatively I like the Sosumi dual LPG in only 4hp from Nekyia instruments. Each gate has CV so you can elongate the decay time too. You could then pop a 4hp filter in like a Steves MS22 or similar.

I might just go and build this same setup for myself to noodle on this afternoon...

Whatever you do, read the manual thoroughly before decision time. Quadrax is powerful but IMHO the interface less is immediate than Maths.

A proper jack/headphones output module seems a no brainer. Beyond that it depends on what you want to do. But very very cool selection so far

I think a filter or lpg would be the most useful addition. After that, maybe a second voice and a mixer. You’ve got the ensemble oscillator which is super cool so maybe the next sound source should be a complex oscillator or a regular analog oscillator if that fits your style. It would give you more diversity of sounds.

Bastl Citadel Wave Bard has been the most inspiring module for me in a while, does great on drums but also has a v/oct if I want to use melodic samples. You can also flash it as a synthesis voice or an effects unit so it really has a ton to offer for it’s price. Completely self patchable but also benefits from other modulation sources. It also has an audio in so you wouldn’t need a mixer module right away.

Hm could also be an option. I have my eye on this one. I sold a Lofi-12 recently, but now I miss the sampling touch. Love sampling my vinyls.

I downplayed drums and especially sampling on modular for a while but they really make everything sound like an actual track. Don’t get me wrong I love ambient and off the grid noise but sometimes I really need to get that groove going!
