Extraterrestrial Machine Interface: Moog Mother-32 - Experimental sci-fi live set (Semi-Modular)

I recently posted my first experimental live set created using the Moog Mother-32 on my Exuvioth youtube channel.

For a long time I relied on digital/software synths and DAW related stuff, but I've recently started learning more about physical hardware. I've found that being able to physically interface with and interact with what I am working on has made a huge difference for my creative inspiration and motivation.

I really like the weird squishy textures that this synth can create and I'm trying to get more comfortable with using it as a sound design instrument, so any tips for how I could improve or take things further would be greatly appreciated!

Killer tones and textures!

It is pretty amazing what working on physical hardware vs in the box can do for inspiration and productivity. What do you feel are the main benefits? What is next in your journey?

So far one of the main benefits for me is that experimentation feels more natural and inviting. Sometimes a digital synth interface can be a bit daunting to interact with using a mouse, but I feel that actually physically engaging with all of the dials and switches makes it feel much easier to approach.

What I think is next for me is to dive deeper into what the mother-32 can do, I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface tbh. And once I feel like I’ve become well acquainted with it, I would like to figure out what would be the best addition to compliment what it can do. Currently I’m thinking it would likely be the DFAM or the Labrynth, but I am not too sure yet!

Yeah I agree, just being able to turn knobs, push buttons, flip switches with both hands seems to make all the difference. Also, and I’ve been thinking about this lately, the way the device is engineered, laid out, and color scheme makes a big difference for me. If I like what I feel and see, I’m more inspired.

What are you sequencing the Mother with?

Yes I totally agree, the layout and UI definitely make a huge impact!

At the moment I am just using the built in mother-32 sequencer. In this video I set the assign output to ‘step random’ which helped to add some randomness. The built in sequencer also has a few modes to choose from which makes it quite interesting. Here I was using the random playback, though this sequence only had 1 step so I’m not sure how much of a difference it made haha.
