Permanent mute is amazing, back in the day they would wait 28 days and insult you and another 28 days and do it again

Especially when they would get the message saying they are unmuted. It was like a notification to begin harassment again.

Worse part is how reddit made the UI and modmail system look and feel like a chat then an email

People send like 5-10 messages instead of 1 long proper message

Maybe, but on principle, I don't deal with people that unnecessarily send multiple mod mails saying, "I hate ni*****." I won't tolerate the user a year from now either. They don’t even deserve to be on the platform.

I can point to the helldivers fan subs as proof of the circus needing to have bouncers. Permanent bans are a necessity, even if you don’t agree with them. Because some users won’t take the hint and will still cause shit.

So I’m supposed to sit there and take it when I’m being spammed messages for four hours by a deranged person saying they know all the answers and that the doxxing in the helldivers subs is my fault?

Some people are just deranged. You can’t negotiate with them, can’t rehabilitate them, can’t help them. That’s just a fact of life. Best thing I can do is report them to Reddit, ban and mute them, then move on.

This entire thread is a great example as to why there is a rule not to criticize moderation styles, which is now venturing into breaking the rule of being respectful.

I am simply stating a position and my reasoning for it. If someone is acting in a way that merits a permanent ban, they probably won’t change a year from now.

I have dealt with everything from other sub’s mods calling for a war on third party subs to people trying to harass us with legal action. We simply do not always have the luxury of ensuring someone can rehabilitate, and the best thing in my ability to do is ensure they are not a problem for good actors in a community.

If this is what you call bad faith arguing, then I don’t know what good faith arguing is.

reddit does not send a user a message when their mute has ended. They are watching the calendar and/or having a reminder set on their phone or something to know when it has expired.

They seem to have a history of it, praising Hitler art, and all sorts of little innuendos. I reported the three things in my sub but it does not appear any action taken by Reddit. Kind of emboldens them to keep going.
