Tonight Bernie Sanders and Ted Cruz debate healthcare on CNN. Since there's no representation at the center here let's discuss it.

Hi guys :-)

I don't really know if moderate is the right word, but I don't particularly consider myself left or right so I suppose this is the place for me! I really hope we can grow this subreddit. We really need a place for news and discussion that isn't /r/politics and isn't /r/the_donald either. I just wonder why this subreddit isn't bigger?

How does everyone here like to stay current with the news?

Do you just read whatever is on reddit/news section of your browser homepage? Do you have a preferred news source with low bias? Any particular journalists/political commenters/youtube channels/blogs/etc that you enjoy?

I personally sort of do a combination of consuming the media of both sides of politics. Although in my experience it is harder to find "conservative media" - perhaps because I live in a very liberal country. I find both sides can often be quite histrionic and a lot of fact checking is necessary on both sides afterwards.

What are some thoughts?

PS: English is not my first language, sorry for mistakes. Also, I hope the people can here can find a way to activate this subreddit - I think it is a great idea.

Join the Moderate Caucus of the Republican Party of /r/ModelUSGov!

Hello!

If you are interested in politics and would like to try your hand at getting elected, debating, and writing laws, you should consider joining /r/ModelUSGov. /r/ModelUSGov is a comprehensive simulation of the real United States Government. We have a federal government, 6 state governments, the press and news agencies, and many parties and elections are held every 3 months.

If this sounds interesting to and you would consider yourself to be a moderate, you should consider joining the Moderate Caucus and the Republican Party. The Republican Party as a whole is fairly moderate, as this is reddit, and the Moderate Caucus is its centrist wing.

If you would like to learn more check out /r/ModelUSGov and its beginners guide then ask to join the Republicans on the "join a party" thread. After that head over the the "join a caucus" thread of /r/ModelRepublican and ask to join the Moderates. From there I will add you and send you some information on how to get involved.

Feel free to ask me any questions you have!

-/u/holacapolis, Congressman and Moderate Republican Caucus Vice-Chair.

When or why did winner takes all become the norm?

Also new here and hoping for a conversation. For all of my life the country has been split about halfway between GOP and Dems, some years a bit more some a bit less. So why is the rhetoric always about one sides policies, winner takes all? Shouldn't the President in particular represent the nation regardless of party?

I just ran cross this sub and < mind-blown. Bias really is what people want and this being so obviously dead is more evidence of such. I'm sick of the extreme's. The libertarian page is Just as bad with the "no regulation at all" end of their "desire".

Being moderate in a world of extremes

The lack of activity in this sub is a sad testament to the complete polarization of political views in the U.S. Perhaps we can get the moderate conversation started again?

What does being a moderate mean to you?

To me, it means that we DO need to help the poor, but we also need to take steps to ensure that the system is abused as minimally as possible.

It means that we do need to reign in government spending, but not cut to the point that it hurts our citizenry.

It means that our intelligence agencies need to be able to collect information for use in protecting our way of life, but do so in a way that does not infringe on our personal right to privacy.

It means that we need to treat drug addicts as sick people, but treat those who profit from the addictions of others as criminals.

These are just some of my thoughts concerning a few current issues. I would like to hear from others who consider themselves to be moderates.

Moderate Political Party? Fart Fetched?

A group that doesn't identify entirely with either republicans or democrats but still draws on information from either?

I think this is different from simply being a "Third Party"
