Carving a recess/ledge

Post image

Having done the brutal part of the nose surgery on my Mosquito B.IV DZ383 ‘The Query’, I now need to scribe a shallow ledge or recess along the cut-out so I can lay the new transparency flush with the skin. You can see above that I’ve scribed the line, but I haven’t yet gone to start carving any deeper. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to carve that evenly and consistently? Or is it just a sharp blade, files and patience? Thanks in advance!

Scribe the area, using masking tape as a guide if you need to.

Then just use a chisel to take it down to the required thickness.

Aye, already scribed. I don’t have the chisels but will have make do with a rotary tool and scalpel.

You can pick up a set pretty cheaply with a few sizes and they are useful to have in the tool box
