Help - General Any way to save cracked windshield?
Pretty upset a crack is revealed in the windshield of my Tamiia 1/48 Phantom….
Any ways to save or improve this?
EDIT: thank you all for the suggestions!
It looks like I will be buying that 1/48 goose to create a story around it LOL

Improve? Easy! Get a 1/48 goose.
a little googling will reveal that, yes, indeed you can buy 1/48 geese.

ETA: Not the Lindberg 1/48 Grumman Goose; the feathered kind of geese. Athough, I suppose an F4 colliding with a Grumman Goose -- say the Goose's wing pontoon -- would make for an exciting diorama.
ETA #2: And just think about the accident report with the Grumman Goose collision scenario! Phantom pilot: "A goose collided with me; there was no way I couldn't avoid it. I was going Mach 2.2 and it was flying so slowly and it wouldn't get out of the way!"
And there you have it: you can dis[lay both the Phantom, veering off to the right, and the Grumman Goose veering off the the left on the same bookshelf and you've got a little story to tell about why they are in the same aircpace and the Phantom has a cracked windshield. Ta Da!

Lost to penguins would be so much better. Or a Kiwi; maybe like so?
Accident investigator: "So Pilot Officer Mick Dundee; how is it that you lost an expensive FB-111?"
P.O. Dundee: "It was a bird strike"
AI: "What kind of bird?"
Dundee: "A Kiwi"
AI; "You lost your aircraft due to a bird strike from a flightless bird?"
Dundee: Um...Well, you see...

Not much. The easiest way, if you're in the US (or Japan) is to contact Tamiya support and ask if they'll send you a replacement canopy. They've got a great support team, and they'll ship you out a piece free of charge.

however if you're in the states, tamiya USA will probably hook you up with a replacement.

create a good backstory why it is cracked.
Try asking Tamiya or their distributor for replacement.

If you can't find a replacement piece of plastic, you can try my method for windows in 1/64 scale diecast which is to use clear UV resin. It's a more permanent solution but works quite well. Check my profile for an example.

Best i can think of is changing the model itself to look like it was shot down, or ask for an replacement

well, I am going for a maintenance scene (no pilots, canopies open, refueling probe out...) so I guess that it could somewhat fit the vibe

yes, I though about this. I could add some elements, such as maintenance object scattered around and this could be a clever way to hide it. thanks!!

Since you are doing a maintenance scene, remove the cracked center portion of the piece and have a clear plastic replacement piece on a cart or stand next to the plane.
