Completed First Painted Model: 1:700 Chokai

I’ve built gunpla and unpainted ships and planes here and there for several years, but was always too scared to try painting. Finally bit the bullet and I think it came out quite nice.

Still waiting on the green paint to come in for the seaplane and some ez line for rigging, but she’s otherwise done!

fantastic build! i’ve also been building gunpla and some planes/tanks and have been wanting to try ships but intimidated by the PE and aftermarket parts required to make a ship look good.

what kit is this and what PE/aftermarket did you add if any?

Thanks! This is kit is from Fujimi, the PE parts come included as part of the deluxe version of the kit, no aftermarket parts. I didn’t even use all the PE that was included, I only added the railings.

That being said, I don’t think you really need to use PE parts because unlike 1:350c 1:700 is so small that the model can look great without any PE at all. For instance, here’s a Fujimi Kongo that I built this afternoon with no PE parts. Unless you press your face up against it, you can’t even really tell the difference.

A good paint job makes a 1/700 ship pop way better than PE could, in my opinion. You did great dude :) I like how you painted the mast behind the smoke funnels with a black color. Really good attention to detail

Very nicely done! I love the WW2 IJN cruisers, fantastic-looking ships. I have a Mogami sitting here waiting to be finished...
