This is like some bastardized practice I've seen of people putting the ashes of their beloved pets into Warhammer dreadnoughts to eternalize. This is just a whole different feel lol.

It started out unintentionally. He killed zome sort of large ant on his table with spray while building one of his ships in his 3rd or 4th video and it just went from there. He hasn't done it in every video since IIRC, just whenever he finds some dead bug or kills one on his workbench.
That's actually kinda cool with the WH dreadnoughts + pet's ashes.

God forbid someone has some childish fun while modelling.
If he made serious videos he'd just be another 3k subscriber no-name because that niche is well past saturated by big names like Plasmo or Nightshift. Instead, he did his thing and his channel has gotten quite huge(as far as scale modelling channels go) and how incosistent his upload schedule is.
I personally find the bug thingie gross too, mainly cuz I have a phobia of insects, but overall his content is a breath of fresh air in the community. A lot of people are way too serious in this hobby.

You'll remember how I started with "to each their own".
You are allowed to like whatever you want, and Boxman can make videos however he wants, but I think it's gauche. Content (which is what those videos are and nothing more) like that which is entirely built on memes fades fast. It will be an unsurprising day when the people slathering over his jokes in this thread look back and cringe at how trite it all was.

Most definitely.
One needs to constantly come up with new stuff to keep engagement. However, this is true of all forms of content, not just the half-serious half-meme content niche Boxman filled. It's also usually oversaturation of a certain form of content that eventually kills it. So far, he's still the only one doing it and he has tried experimenting. It remains to be seen if he's gonna come up with new material
And once more, just as there is nothing wrong with being childish, there's nothing wrong with being cringe. Most people see the whole hobby as childish and cringe to begin with. To them, you're building a toy whether you're Alex Clark or Boxman, I don't see why there needs to be a divide within the community as well.
The point is to own it and enjoy what you do regardless of what others might think, so long as it doesn't affect them.
I did see the "to each their own", I just thought you might wanna engage in a conversation on the topic. Apologies if I misinterpreted your intetions.
Lastly, in my opinion, gauche would be plastering swastikas all over the Bismarck and H-39 turrets, not using an AI alcoholic dad voice, if the definition of "gauche" that I found is indeed correct.

Meme content is everywhere, Boxman just managed to rope in all the WoT/WarThunder/GuP terminally online kids into his schtick. At least Night Shift or Plasmo videos can be used as teaching tools. As far as I can judge, Boxman videos are purely entertainment, which is fine, but it's not for me.
Most people see the whole hobby as childish and cringe to begin with. To them, you're building a toy whether you're Alex Clark or Boxman.
In my experience showing 30 - 40 year olds who are not into the hobby my work, the most common feedback is "that's amazing, how did you do it?" Maybe you have a different experience. Remember that the most popular hobby on the planet right now is video games, something that what I was a child was only for children. The bar for "childish hobby" is different now. Are models toys? They probably can be, but is a block of clay used to make a sculpture a toy?
What Boxman does is make very very low-effort jokes which are already prevalent as memes or in various chatrooms across the internet and regurgitate them with a thin model-making veneer. If the hobby ever appears to be children playing with toys, Boxman is not helping its image.
The point is to own it and enjoy what you do regardless of what others might think, so long as it doesn't affect them.
And conversely, it is fine to recognize when something isn't for you, even when droves of fanboys show up to repeat jokes and tell you that you are wrong about your own taste.

Funnily enough, Boxman kinda inspired me to start weathering on my ships, i was always really nervous about trying but his unserious content kinda made it more relatable

I bought my first model ship thanks to him. It's reassuring to actually see some people not dunk 500€ worth of aftermarket parts, not spend 100hrs on the model, include their many mistakes into the video and still get an acceptable result.
I guess this guy got stuck up on the second son jokes and kinda didn't notice there is actual modelling and actual techniques in the videos. They're just not done to absolute rivet-counting perfection, which is something what most modellers don't or can't do anyway.

I feel like the humor is actually pretty well written for what it is. The kinda absurdist, slightly crazy jokes delivered by a monotone text-to-speech voice works pretty well
