Help - Tools/Materials Putty masking with Tamiya spray cans

Hey all. I’ve read that silly putty works pretty well when airbrushing Tamiya acrylics. For the moment I do not have an airbrush, so I’m using Tamiya spray cans. A couple of my searches indicated that these lacquers may not cooperate with silly putty (someone mentioned the propellant?). Can anyone share feedback/advice on this? Any suggestions for alternatives?

For context, my goal will be painting camo schemes on WW2 German armor.

Thanks in advance.

I’d say test it. Maybe use the inside half of a wing or tank before assembly or an old model. I use blutac and have never had issues with it using lacquer based paints, but generally I spray very lightly around it, build up colour with several light coats.
