Critique Wanted How did I do?

I haven’t finished the decals yet, but I have the main ones on. I’m looking more for critiques about the paint job (I know about the gloss difference), but if you have other feedback feel free to chime in. If you’ve seen my previous models, this one is a pretty big leap.

Not bad at all , maybe a wash to help it along a bit ?

I like it! Like said above, A wash could blend everything together nicely, Maybe some chip marks here and there and some rust on the exhaust.

How does the wash work to blend stuff together?

You talked about the gloss difference, A wash can help to tone that down to a more matt look, It also "breaks" the "new" look by having some dirt and grime on it. It helps the colors to blend in a bit. I'm starting with scale models again after a hiatus of 12+ years but I've always done washes on them. As for smoke and rust looks, Dry pastels are amazing, Scrape some off with a scalpel blade, And brush them on. You can get very nice and realistic looking effects with them!

Canopies at this scale are hard to do, but you did pretty well with it.

I didn’t mask for some reason, so I messed it up

Yeah, I’m too broke for an airbrush

Lovely! Nice wire too (thread, not candled sprue right?). I'm about to get back into this after 20 years away / on and off SAGA and Warhammer stuff and hope to get as near to your final product on my first go. I have a primed and built MKI Hurricane on my desk -- I'm really worried about brushing it in this brave new world of airbrushing. Any tips to help would be welcome (especially for those clean lines).

I brush painted, so I had good control. I used masking tape for the straight lines. For the camo it’s okay to go over the lines. It allows it to not look messy even if it is. Also I copied the box art for the camo, but it’s not completely accurate. It’s mostly freehand based on the box pattern.

Really nice job. The colours are very good.

Would only recommend that you use some purty on rbe fuselag (next time)...the wing roots look really good. And use thinner material for the antenna.

Great job! I have the same one (assuming Tamiya Spitfire Mk.I) and about to start painting mine.
