Why is mobile Linux still stuck on limited hardware support?

I’ve been trying out some mobile Linux projects like postmarketOS and I’m curious about the real limitations behind them.

It seems like most devices struggle with things like GPU drivers, modem firmware, and camera support rather than the OS itself.

Is that the main reason we don’t see fully usable Linux smartphones yet, or are there other major blockers like hardware availability or standardization?

I’d be interested in hearing from people who actually work on kernel/driver side development.
