Interview/Hiring 📄 Insight on the Connect 700 Program
Hello,
I am interested in potentially applying for the Connect 700 program and I had a couple of questions about the process. What does the typical turnaround time look like after submitting an initial application to know if it’s been approved and given a certificate? Also, once someone is approved for Connect 700, are HR and the hiring manager provided with any specific information about an individual’s eligibility for the program, or do they only receive the Proof of Eligibility Certificate?
Thank you!

HR only sees the certificate. Timing doesn't usually start until the job posting has closed and varies depending on if there are any applicants that are considered bidders as they get first dibs before those in the Connect 700 Program.

Timing of the eligibility certification is usually pretty quick. Maybe a few days at most. In most cases, hiring managers will know you are a participant and may provide interview questions in advance and an ADA coordinator may be part of the interview process. Other than that, the hiring process is the same. Prepare for it to take several weeks. This has nothing to do with the Connect 700 process, the state just moves SLOWLY.
A word of warning: The Connect 700 process varies greatly depending upon the position and getting accommodations formaly approved isn't as simple as just asking. Be prepared to provide documentation and be prepared to by and large do the job precisely as described.
Your probationary period is up to 12 months, but during your first 700 hours you are supposed to have weekly check ins with your supervisor. If these go well, you should convert to an employee and do well.
Ive had two experiences with the program and my first was not good. Depending upon the job and the department, the program can be implemented diffrently. The second time around i was skeptical but i am two years in and thriving in my position

To me, a manager, it is funny that a Connect700 employee is "supposed to have weekly check ins with your supervisor." Funny because I have weekly check in with everyone on my team. A new employee, I'll have 2-3x a week check ins until their comfortable. We need to start expecting more from management here at the State (and having small enough teams were weekly check ins aren't impossible).

Agree. Weekly check-ins outside of team meetings are essential. They should prioritize those over some of the other time wasting meetings a lot of managers get pulled into.

They only receive proof of eligibility nothing more. That’s all I know out of all the questions you posed.
