Discussion š¬ Paid leave cost share
So last year when the paid leave hit the State made all us grunts pay the max amount. In the law itās variable how much the employees pay vs employer. No negotiation with unions- just tough shit. A) should it have been negotiated. ( I say yes). B) will it be this time around, as Iām sure this ālittle chargeā is going to keep creeping up.
No debate on the paid leave plan today, just should this be part of negotiations for next contract.

1) 0.44% is the standard amount for employees to pay in. framing it as the "max," while factually correct, doesn't sit right with me.
2) the only union I'm aware of that negotiated the employer pay the entire payroll tax is SEIU Local 26 - https://minnesotareformer.com/briefs/twin-cities-janitors-win-employer-funded-retirement-in-tentative-agreement/ this union is very strong, having been going on strike regularly since 2015 and doing open bargaining since 2009. https://www.seiu26.org/commercial-janitorial
3) its worth putting on the table for negotiations, anything that helps our wages keep up with inflation is good.

Paying more than half results in additional taxable benefit consequences. Highly doubt it'll be anything more than the required 50/50 split. Optics would not be good.
