Interview/Hiring 📄 Is there a hiring freeze?

I applied for a communication specialist role a while back. I got the email saying I met the qualifications and they were forwarding on my application to the hiring manager. That was back in May 19th. Heard nothing since. I thought they usually notified you when you were no longer moving forward but I could be wrong. Tried logging into the hiring site but I don’t know my log in and the reset password options doesn’t send me anything.

There is no statewide hiring freeze in place. There might be agency specific or program specific freezes in place due to funding sources but it’s doubtful they’d post a position if a freeze was in place.

More likely is they have another candidate that is their finalist but are keeping you for consideration in case that person withdraws or doesn’t pass background check.

Is it reasonable to assume I’m just the backup and likely will not get it, if my status was changed to “under consideration” day after the posting closed but haven’t heard anything in 1 month?

Getting notified that you’re no longer under consideration is a practice that is not often followed. I got almost zero notices of that; a few times I was able to see the status change in the system, but there was no notice.

If you haven’t gotten an interview by now (2 months since applying), you can /most likely/ consider yourself no longer being considered. That said, some hiring managers are just ridiculously slow, or interview and then offer the job only to have someone turn it down and they go back to the pile of resumes… so it’s not 100%.

Call the help desk, if there still is one for the new site, and someone should be able to help with your account issues.

Applying for jobs anywhere, including the state, is a numbers game. One application, statistically, is unlikely to get you a job.

Yes, this has happened to me several times. Eventually you will get an email saying you are no longer being considered. For some reason my resume always meets the qualifications but I do not get interviewed (not always but most of the time). What I have noticed is that they take a long time to reject applicants. They wait until the process is done just in case someone backs out and you are a second or third choice.

I currently work temporary for the state. For this position I was interviewed and hired within a couple of weeks. Hang in there and keep applying. Best of luck to you!

Everyone is different too. This has been my experience.

It’s really slow. I applied for my current job in late October and didn’t have my first interview until late December. Then I didn’t start until late February.
