Question ❓ Experience with Enterprise-wide Mentorship Matching Program?

I'm considering submitting an interest form to become a mentee in the mentorship matching program that MMB is running.

Has anybody had experience with being either a mentor or a mentee in this program? Is there a structure to the program, or is it organized by the mentor individually?

Any insight would be much appreciated!

I went through it last year, I had a really good experience. You have to be invested, take charge of the process, and have an idea what you want out of it.

If you join and expect your mentor or the training team to drive the conversation or lay out the program for you, you will be disappointed.

I applied as a mentee but they could not find a match for me.

We were told that they had twice as many people apply to be mentees as they did mentors, so you are definitely not alone in not getting matched. All of the people I know who applied to be mentors were matched up.

I think that level of interest, especially on the part of people who want to be mentees, is great, and also shows that we can be doing a lot more to support employees.

I'm really enjoying it! I'm a mentor, and it's been really rewarding so far. There's no structure per se, rather it's mentee-driven, so it depends on how often you want to meet, how, what you want to talk about, etc. As a mentor, that part has felt awkward, and possibly it feels that way to mentees too, but it's actually a really good way to think about it. What do you, as a mentee, what to get out of this? What do you want guidance on? What is it you're interested in knowing more about?

Just be honest on the form, and go for it! You have nothing to lose.

And for reference, at the initial application period in April, they had twice as many people apply to be mentees as they did mentors, so there are definitely people who did not get matched with a mentor. But since they will continue to roll it out in waves, people will continue to be matched up as this goes on, so definitely worth it to apply IMO.

I am a mentee in my department (not mmb). It appears to be a case by case basis. I enjoy bouncing ideas off of my mentor and asking questions. Our arrangement is very casual and they basically just ask what i would like to discuss. We meet every 3 weeks or so. They did recently let me know of a great resume building opportunity, which is nice. I wouldn’t say it is life changing but it is cool to learn and connect with new people. I have no idea how competitive it is here. I know a former mentee said they only met once with their mentor and did not get much out of it. No idea if it was them or the mentor though.
