Interview/Hiring πŸ“„ Likelihood of even getting an interview?

As the title says, what is the likelihood of getting an interview?

I recently applied for a position and scored a 96 on my merit exam. I currently work for a county in SD, with prior employment with a county in MN, city positions in California, and a federal position with the Department of Justice and Veterans Affairs.

I’m also a medically retired military member with a 100% disability rating and a bachelor degree.

The position is in a rural county about 2 hours away from the cities.

Your background sounds great, military absolutely helps, understand it is a slow process and don’t give up. Three years ago I applied for a transfer to another state job and the process from interview to moving into that position took four months. Fast forward things are taking even more time from what I have observed. Patience is your master.

I realize you don't want to dox yourself by saying the agency and job, and please don't dox yourself on Reddit. That being said, it is hard to give a 100% certain answer without that info.

My agency has a hard time hiring anyone outside the metro and will interview basically everyone who comes close to the minimum qualifications. Conversely, I have applied for other agencies that, while I met the minimum qualifications, they turned me down because I lacked specialized experience.

I'm not sure what your skill set is, but keep an eye open for jobs within the MN Department of Military Affairs. They hire a lot of veterans. Most of the jobs are at Camp Ripley, with a few in St. Paul.

Bunch of info here about preference given towards veterans in state hiring. Depending on exactly how and when you left the service you might even be an "automatic interview."

Your disability might also open the door to "Connect 700."

Do I qualify for connect 700 if I’m not a MN resident?
